K-State Basketball

K-State played its best game of the season in a 78-68 win over No. 3 Missouri in Columbia. Rodney McGruder led the way with 24 points, but among the games played by Angel Rodriguez, Thomas Gipson, Jamar Samuels and Jordan Henriquez, it's hard to set one above the other.

You guys called it in the open thread. We all knew a run by Mizzou was coming at some point in the second half. But K-State answered big shots by the Tigers time and again to prevent a backbreaking, crowd-exciting run.

Improves NCAA chances? We're in now, unless we manage to lose our last three and the first game of the Big 12 tournament. In any event, with the last two wins, K-State now has a chance to play its way out of the 8-9 matchup and give itself a decent chance to make the second weekend.

Jordan Henriquez is now the career blocks leader at K-State. For a kid who's been questioned so often, that has to be a good feeling.

K-State's length and physicality bothered Missouri, again. The bottom line is that basketball is about matchups, and K-State is a bad matchup for Mizzou.

K-State Football

B.J. Finney makes Andy Staples all-star team for recruits who were rated two stars or lower.

Land Thieves

Oklahoma's Jay Norvell may have committed a recruiting violation by offering a recruit a scholarship via Twitter.

Poor Aggy

Let's see. Should Texas A&M allow a group of attractive women to patrol the sidelines of Kyle Field during A&M football games and, when music is played, dance as a group? Nah, that would take away from the game-day atmosphere. I mean, I get it, why would you want to showcase this group more often than necessary (probably safe for work, but you're warned that it is a photo of TAMU's dance team in uniform).

K-State Basketball

Big doesn't begin to describe K-State's 57-56 win over Baylor on Saturday in Waco. The win ended a three-game losing streak and, for the time being, shores up K-State's NCAA Tournament résumé.

Speaking of the Dance, on Friday Austin Meek wrote that K-State was trending toward the opening games in Dayton, if it made the tournament at all. Take care of business the rest of the way, and the Wildcats shouldn't need to be concerned about that.

In other words, the Wildcats took advantage of one of their few remaining opportunities to pick up signature wins. Not that K-State is lacking in that department compared to most of its bubble companions, but knocking off another top-10 team never hurts.

With the win, K-State reversed the close-game curse that has haunted it all season. Let's hope it's the type of win that snaps the team out of their previous rut.

Much-maligned junior Jordan Henriquez played a big part in K-State's crucial win. Two of Henriquez's three blocked shots in the game came in the closing minutes.

K-State Women's Basketball

Tasha Dickey led K-State to another win over Texas, as the Wildcats routed the Longhorns, 65-45, Saturday in Manhattan.

K-State Baseball

The Bat Cats kicked off the season with a win, but dropped to 1-1 with a loss Sunday to Cal State-Bakersfield. The series concludes today at 4:00 p.m.

College baseball teams are finally adjusting to the new bats that were introduced last season.

Big 12 Basketball

Oklahoma State put Texas back on the bubble with a 90-78 win over the Longhorns in Stillwater, keyed by Keiton Page's 40 (!) points ... Missouri took care of business in its first win over Texas A&M in College Station since 2001, beating the Aggies 71-62 ... Iowa State swept Oklahoma with an 80-69 win in Ames ... and KU won a forgettable game in Lawrence over Texas Tech, 83-50.

K-State Basketball

Jamar Samuels has been dating Washburn's Ebonie Williams for almost three years now. It sounds like a good relationship, but Samuels apparently cheats at one-on-one (basketball, you jerks).

K-State Baseball

Pitching is the biggest question mark for K-State baseball this season. After losing Kyle Hunter, Evan Marshall and James Allen to the MLB Draft, that's hardly a surprise.

Big 12 Basketball

Who gets the best home-court advantage, at least in terms of foul differential? It's Missouri, and by a full foul per game.

Kansas City is the fourth-ranked market market in the country for college-basketball viewership.

Big 12 Football

Dennis Dodd has seven Big 12 schools ranked in his preseason top 25, with K-State checking in at 15.

The KU ticket scandal just won't go away

We now find out that two Lawrence police officers have been suspended after an FBI investigation indicated they were fixing traffic tickets in exchange for KU basketball tickets.

Delta State Fighting Oooooooooooooooooookras

Would you mess with this mascot? No, no you wouldn't. It's a fighting Okra. It will throw you a football. Then it will give you an intimidating look before annihilating you and spiking the ball over your corpse.

K-State Basketball

Those of you who were fortunate enough to miss the first half of the K-State/KU game on Monday will be relieved to know that Time Warner has determined that it was a receiver glitch that killed ESPN's feed.

K-State Women's Basketball

K-State's second-half lead evaporated and the Wildcats lost to Oklahoma, 68-62.

K-State Baseball

Opening day for K-State is this weekend, so it's time to start thinking baseball. The Wildcats announced this year's TV and radio schedule yesterday.

Big 12 Basketball

Missouri got revenge in a big way on Oklahoma State for last month's loss in Stillwater, rolling over the Cowboys in an 83-65 win in Columbia last night.

Where have all the fans gone?

That's the question asked by Rachel Bachman of the Wall Street Journal. Attendance at ACC basketball games is down almost 14 percent since 2006.

K-State Football

The Big 12 released its 2012 football schedule yesterday. No surprises for K-State, who opens with three non-conference home games before kicking off the conference slate in Norman, Okla. The Wildcats will visit both of the conference's newcomers next year, traveling to Morgantown, W.Va., on October 20 and visiting Fort Worth, Texas, on November 10. My personal favorite part of the schedule? Texas. Manhattan. December.

K-State defensive back Allen Chapman was arrested on Saturday for driving on a suspended license. Such a minor thing, but so easy to prevent.

K-State Basketball

Taking a page out of Texas Tech's book, KU switched to a triangle-and-two defense after K-State took the lead in the second half Monday. The result? An 11-0 run and a 10-point lead at the end of the next six-and-a-half minutes, and that was pretty much all she wrote.

The fan of the game on Monday was a kindergartner from Olathe who refused to color a jayhawk on Kansas Day at school. Good for you, Emma.

Big 12 Basketball

Texas did what K-State couldn't when it picked up a 69-58 win over Oklahoma in Norman last night ... In one of the lowest-scoring games in Big 12 history, Texas A&M beat Texas Tech, 48-37. in fact, the two teams scored the exact same number of total points as they did in their football meeting, which resulted in a 45-40 Texas A&M win.

West Virginia to the Big 12

It's finally officially official. West Virginia and the Big East have settled their lawsuit, terms confidential, of course. The Mountaineers will join the Big 12 in July.

K-State Basketball

K-State couldn't capitalize on Jamar Samuels' best game of the season and lost at home to KU, 59-53.

The Jayhawks did everything they could in the final minutes of the game to keep K-State within striking distance, but the Wildcats couldn't take advantage of KU's turnovers and missed free throws.

Hope you weren't trying to watch the game on Time Warner Cable in Kansas City last night, because you missed most of the first half if you did. Of course, K-State pretty much missed the first half, too, so you have something in common.

Big 12 Basketball

Baylor overwhelmed Iowa State for a 79-64 win to snap its two-game losing streak.

#AggieTears

According to SEC policy, students cannot be seated in the first 25 rows between the 30 yard lines behind the opposing team's bench. Guess where Texas A&M's students and band traditionally sit stand? And guess who's throwing a fit about it? Poor aggy.

K-State Basketball

In a game that was a tale of two halves, K-State dominated the first half before falling apart in the second half against Texas on Saturday. The end result was a 75-64 loss that leaves K-State reeling with games against KU, Baylor and Missouri looming.

None of K-State's players were made available to the media afterward. Draw your own conclusions from that.

There's no rest for the frustrated. K-State gets KU in Manhattan tonight.

Bill Self is wary of a snakebitten K-State team. A cornered and wounded animal is often the most dangerous, but at some point it gives up, too. Let's hope that doesn't happen with K-State.

In its last two wins over KU in Manhattan, there's been a Michael Beasley or Jacob Pullen to pour in 25 or 38 points. It will likely take a much more balanced effort tonight if K-State is to pull the upset.

K-State Women's Basketball

In the women's version of the Sunflower Showdown, K-State once again bested KU, notching a 47-43 win.

Big 12 Basketball

Missouri made eight threes in a row in the second half and ran Baylor out of the gym in a 72-57 win ... Iowa State blew out Texas A&M in a 69-46 laugher in Ames ... Remember that Oklahoma team K-State lost to twice? Yeah, it gave Texas Tech its first conference win of the year on Saturday ... KU cruised to an 81-66 home win over Oklahoma State.

K-State Basketball

Shane Southwell hasn't had the breakout season we had been hoping to see, struggling to adjust to what was supposed to be an increased role this year.

Once again, Peter has an excellent preview of this Saturday's K-State/Texas showdown.

Frank Martin sent a letter to K-State students yesterday, acknowledging that he needs to cut down on the profanity on the sidelines, and asking that they do the same in the stands. After attending four games this season, I can honestly say I had no idea what this letter was referencing until I asked some people.

Big 12 Conference

It sounds like West Virginia and the Big East have reached a settlement. West Virginia will pay $11 million to the conference, while the Big 12 will kick in the other $9 million, probably to be paid out of Texas A&M's and Missouri's liquidated damages. Meanwhile, the Big 12 will release its 2012 football schedule today.

College Football Playoff

Dr. Saturday has a few suggestions for the proposed four-team college-football playoff.
