Bring On The Cats

2/2/12 Community Links day.

TB is experiencing technical difficulties and is probably being instructed to power cycle his modem to resolve the issue. This of course might work but if it doesn't a technician will be dispatched in 2-14 days to resolve the issue.

A couple of quick K-State links to get you started this Thursday morning.

K-State Lady Cats basketball defeat the Longhorn women in Austin.

And some thoughts from the KCStar on the K-State's latest recruiting class.

Good for the Lady Cats. At one point in the 2nd half they had scored all of one point (in something like 8 minutes of playing), and UT took the lead by 2

It didn’t last! Good for them.

Anyone else going to the game against Baylor on Saturday night? I’m not looking forward to seeing Joakim Noah hammer the Cats (I swear the NBA season started), but I think it will be a fun atmosphere, particularly because it is $1 day.

I wouldn’t mind mind Hayes being the D-coordinator, but for how awful Hartman’s tackling was last year. I’m also praying the damned defensive philosophy of “I don’t care how many yards or points we give up” was all Cosh.

http://cfn.scout.com/2/1155087.html – Bah “It’s Kansas State, so as always the focus is on bringing in as many ready-made JUCO players as possible to win right now.” Anyway, the lines will be key to how successful this team can be. I’m optimistic about the O-line (and if Optimus can figure out how to throw the ball away, that would help too!), but the team MUST have a pass rush.

Pretty sure there were only 6 Juco guys in this class

out of 26 total signed.

And I really don’t think the line will be as “patchwork” as some fear. Hanson ins’t a tough loss, as we was slated as the backup at the beginning of the season anyway. Freeze did okay- but lacked the true strength and mass needed for a big-12 lineman. Only tough loss is Aufner, but there looks to be a lot of competition to replace him. Biggest thing for an o-line is its leadership. BJ Finney returns to anchor the oline, and is joined by Nick Puetz in the middle. Hopefully Foketi gets his medical waiver, that would help, plus Shaun Simon has game expereince and could slide to guard, and there is a lot of young guys that were redshirts last year. Summary: O-Line, with new guys, should be better than this year’s group.

Also, I love Tysyn for his leadership and APR boosting grades, but he hasn’t really been a “playmaker” since before he got injured at the end of his sophomore year. He lacked tackling fundamentals, and often showed lapses in play recognition. I am ready to see how Ganious, Burns, and Bonguli do in that spot, it will be nice to see good competition.

Finally, yeah, Snyder is 72. JoePa coached (right or wrong) until he was 84. these freshamn will be done, at the most, by the time Snyder is 77. Knowing him, he’ll probably still be going strong by then. If not, hopefully there will be a coach picked by Currie (maybe with some input by Synder) that with be ready to go without much drop-off

I wonder if the O-line worries are simply a talking point about O, because of how much the team gets back otherwise

they need to have something to talk about! I wouldn’t call the O loaded, but they’re certainly looking solid for next year, pending the line.

See my breakdown below
If anyone is interested

I was looking at K-State’s 2011 roster and discovered:

1. of the 6 Sr. O-Linemen who graduated, 4 were 5-year guys and 2 were JUCO guys. And of those 2 JUCO guys, only Foketi was recruited by Snyder. So that means 5 of the 6 Seniors in that group were recruited by Prince! WTF!! and 3 of those guys were starters at some point (to be fair, Hanson was a back-up pressed into service after Foketi got hurt). Apparently, RP did something right…that’s tough to say.

2. There were 20(!) O-lineman on the roster, and with only 6 SR.‘s, that means at least 14 return (with 2 returning starters). Hopefuly Foketi can play again, to bring the number to 15 (and 3), but that’s still a lot of guys.

3. 7 FR (who probably all RS’d or had been last year), 5 SO (who were probably all RS’d two years ago, except Simon who cam from JUCO), 2 JR (this is why we needed some JUCO guys), and 6 SR. To me, this is a pretty good breakdown. Only problem area is the two juniors, but that is why Snyder brought in the JUCO guys. Yeah, it will give us 8 JR’s next year, but they will have more game-experience than our current guys and provide good competition.

Summary: O-Line should not be a concern next year

Very good, thank you for your analysis

You’re right, the O-line probably shouldn’t be a concern, but our worries and discussions won’t be alleviated until the whistle blows in Septembers (it’s so far away!)

Agreed

However, they should at least be abated come April 28th

If anything the focus should look towards the defensive line.

The Arkansas game showed that to be true. We need a game changing DE or DT to really get us back to the Lynch Mob days.

Another Darren Howard would always be welcome

I would hope with last year’s JUCO DT signees (Blackmon and Tillman) coupled with the ones signed this year that a replacement for Kibble is found to tandem with Latui. It would also be nice to have enough quality depth to rotate some guys and keep them fresh. But a game-changing DE, as you say, would be huge. Hopefully with a year under their belts Adam Davis and Meshak can take things to another level this year.

Bo Tillman is gone.
According to who? Source??
Soft source, but..........

Also no longer in the KSU directory.

I've heard that before

But still saw his name listed on the roster today.

Yeah, and that's more official than a message board post

though, the ksu directory has been known to be wrong on occasion

So is Chris Cosh

http://www.kstatesports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/ksu-m-footbl-mtt.html#coaches

Not now it isnt

they removed him a couple weeks ago from the directory and the coaches page

Rob Cassidy confirmed it back in late December. It was grades-related.
I saw somewhere that Shaun Simon

is done with football forevers. Bad knees.

P.S.- Bonugli not Bunguli

btw: I spelled in Bonguli

so I only missed the first “u”. Its a simple error…

Damn. Awful news.
I forgot, who's up for lunch on Friday at the union?

I can be there any time, but I prefer 1130, 1215, or 1245 (off times to avoid the inevitable crush).

Im good whenever

just post the time here and I’ll be there. Or you can shoot me an email

And I forgot I have a meeting right at noon tomorrow

Want to meet at 1130 for an early lunch?

I can, sure

not sure what anyone else thinks though…

so when Sean T organizes it, you show up...

but when I tried to organize it, you had some lame excuse about “earning money”. :)

I’m down. I have a meeting at 10:00, surely I’ll be done by 11:30.

Where we gonna meet?

I’ll be wearing a red polo for American Heart Association’s “wear red day” (in honor of my late grandpa).

And he'll be wearing a "The Bachelor" hat.
I'd like to meet in the main union dining area. I'll have on an purple t-shirt with a big 7 and Tomlinson on the back, and a stylized 9 on the front (it's the most unique piece of clothing I have)

How about meeting at that main entrance that opens across from the little coffee shop?

Sure. sounds good to me

and sorry Jeremy, now that my job is more stable I can modify my schedule more easily

I'll be wearing one of my old purple

CatBand polos

If my lab gets out early enough, I hope to be there as well.

Anyone who reads this that’s going, I’ll be in a grayish-white hoodie with a purple powercat on the front. Possibly with a hat that says Sexing Technologies(shrugs). Not sure I’ll be there, but maybe.

So, my 10:00 meeting ran long

Didn’t make it to the Union until around 12:15.

Sorry I missed y’all. We need to plan another one of these.

From the Eagle

Kellis gives his thoughts on what the penalty for Frank might be for his comments following the ISU game

Anyone know what the penalty will be for Kellis being such a bad writer?
Already received it.

He works for the Eagle/Star.

Bazinga.
At least he doesnt work for the Traveler...

:-)

Totally off topic here

but I can’t help but be pissed off about the fact that we get swept by OU, and last night KU bitch slaps them by 22…oh and of course Pleger only went for 17 pts. Just terrible.

Match ups match ups match ups.

KU simply has a much better team than K-State, but more importantly, they were able to defend Pelger and Fitzgerald and Osby better at the same times than the Cats could, and they did a better job of scoring.

I was hoping the answer

wasn’t as obvious as “KU simply has a much better team than K-State”, but i’m afraid you are absolutely correct.

No such luck

unfortunately.

KU is also more experienced than us, and a more cohesive unit.

Pelger is K-State’s volleyball player, Pledger is the guy who we couldn’t stop

That's what I said...
Charlie Weis comment

on recruiting or maybe something else that goes on in Lawrence…

… I don’t have enough fingers to put in the dike. There’s plenty of holes yet to fill, but I think we made a good start. I really feel confident that we filled several (areas of need).
He says he plans to get a few more transfers after the May graduation period

some more 4-year-transfer guys I guess. I wouldn’t think loading up on one-and-done’s in football would do much good though…

i think you missed my immature humor...
Ohhhhhhhhhhh

i get it now….

/thatsnasty

fingers in the dike...

giggle giggle

His plans are only for the next 2-3 years, I dont see a bowl anywhere in that time
What did you expect

He said at his introductory presser that he’s retiring in 5 years.
Why make plans for after that?

I vastley under estimated how stupid shan zingler would be

I assumed they would go out and try to get a 40 something coordinator woth Big 12 ties, but instead they go out and hire a NFL guy thats in his late 50’s with terrible health.

Aderius Epps

I like how he was compared to Nick Leckey on the O-line. I agree with jtarkman above that our O-line might be in pretty good shape next year.

Cody Whitehair
Among others...yes

lots of solid young guys who will push for minutes. Depth on the line should not be a problem

Our thinest position over the past 2 years now maybe one of the deepest
Awesome

Maybe shift one of the means ones over to D-line if need be?

The 6-8 one would be pretty nice in goal line situations
I thought Jordan Allred might do that

at least I remember seeing a story about it
