Eh, yeah it's bad, but also has a lot to do with the personnel.
No guys other than a freshman PG who can really create their own shot. Couple that with guys who are completely careless w/r/t turnovers and it’s going to be tough to have a good offense.
Frank’s teams always improve and Frank said this year’s team has gotten a lot better over the last month. Unfortunately, it’s been very hard for the rest of us to see.
What Frank did: a top 4 finish in the league most years he has been here plus an elite eight and near final four finish with the 2010 squad. Vast improvement from 1991-2006.
What RP did: a 37-10 loss to Rutgers in the 2006 Texas Bowl. Oh…and beat Texas twice.
Prince had one sorta okay team and then two poor ones that become trainwrecks by the end.
Frank has three NCAA teams out of four seasons and is on the bubble for this one. This team is, overall, playing about as expected, despite losing its all time leading scorer. And they have now beaten two top ten teams.
We’re getting spoiled. This team is roughly in the Top 20% of programs. Yep, we’d love to see a step up a notch or three, but Frank has done EXACTLY what virtually NO ONE thought he’d be able to do—build a consistent program.
This has been a good five year run with one near magical season. Jamar for Upshaw and an experienced Angel and Gip? I like what next year looks like. We’re not at KU level, (which another 315 programs could say). But not having Fred Brown or Wally Judge in uniform this year is no indictment of the program. And if you really see the 2012 Wildcat basketball team as parallel to the 2008 Wildcat football team, well…
I avoided the KU and BU games because I had zero faith in Martin being able to coach the guys to wins. I’m glad I was wrong about the game today.
I don’t want Martin gone, and I’m sure Pan doesn’t either, but I’m tired of Martin’s excuses and the blown leads. Only wins will cure this program. Today’s a nice start.
He’s won a single tournament against a bunch of poor teams. He’s won nothing else. He’s reached the Elite 8 once. He’s been schooled by Boyle and Kruger with inferior teams the last two years. Then there are the personnel issues with so many of his players.
He’s not a great coach. He’s good, and I’d like to think he’s getting better (he’s still quite green, particularly by big boy league standards), but let’s hold off on calling him great until he wins a conference title or tournament or two.
He is (usually) a terrific ambassador for K-State and I’m glad he’s the coach of our men’s basketball team, but I’m incredibly frustrated by this season. Someone (Pan? BC? Anon?) said this basketball season is karmic payback for the amazing football season. I like that excuse.
So your measure of success is winning the league/end of season tournaments?
Then there aren’t very many great coaches in sports.
I hear you. I do think there are things Frank can improve, particularly his handling of his rosters. Maybe he is very good instead of great. You could be right.
But I’m not sure why people expect so much more than what he’s consistently delivered – extremely hard working teams that finish in the top half of the Big 12 and make the NCAA tournament. Not only that, but he’s shown his teams have the potential to win games in the tournament (we have never one and done in any tournament under Frank).
He's a basketball coach. Winning leagues and tournaments are the only measures of success. John Calipari, Rick Pitino, Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino are all awful people, but they're also great coaches (sad how that works).
I expect continual improvement and post-season births every season.
Okay. I guess what we're looking for is a little different.
I’d of course love to have the Cats win the Big 12 or a post season tournament.
But all I desire realistically is a program in which every year we’re in the tournament and 2 out of every 4 years have a team that has the potential to make a real run.
I think Frank brings that. And it’s something that very few programs have beyond the blue bloods.
"But all I desire realistically is a program in which every year we’re in the tournament and 2 out of every 4 years have a team that has the potential to make a real run."
Exactly. I expect this out of every team and coach the Cats have right now.
I know full well K-State is never going be what OU and KU have been the last decade in football and bouncey ball, but I demand a team that can put a scare into both programs every year, and beat them when things go well, and get to the post-season. There are too many bowl games and NCAA tourney births for missing either to be acceptable.
As with the football team, playing in Manhattan, Kansas makes it tougher. It’s not the location most big recruits are looking for. Lawrence has a multi-decade history of basketball excellence, so it’s not a fair comparison.
It’s easier to build a dominant program in basketball—all Indiana State needed was Larry Bird to play for a championship. But folks in Ames or Manhattan or Stillwater will always be a longshot to have much hope of being more than consistently pretty good.
Frank has us there and next year looks brighter. “Great” as in future-hall-of-famer"? Nope. Really good, likely as good as we could hope for, and “great” for this program? Yes, sir.
I agree this season has had a lot of frustrating games.
But look at the roster this season. Does that look like talent with which you will win the league/championships?
All things considered, getting to the NCAA tournament this year seems to me like it would be a pretty great accomplishment.
If we’d closed out 2-3 of the games we blew in the second half, we’d be talking about naming the building after Frank instead of getting so annoyed at him.
It’s not an accident they were blowing out good teams like ISU, UT, Baylor before pissing the games away. This is also the only team all year to spank Missouri, and just one of two to beat them. There is some serious college talent on this squad. They’re darned fun to watch at times. But then the wheels come off and I blame Martin for the team’s inability to fix whatever goes wrong. He’s the head coach. He gets the credit, but also the blame.
effortless stroke. The kind you see when almost everything that he looks at goes in as long as he “strokes” the shot. Rodney has this when he is on but when he is off he pushes the ball to the rim. It is all in the mechanics of the shot.
“Holy, God—give this kid another year and we’ll be in the Final Four!!!”
Frank can develop players—Pullen, Clemente. Judge was just horribly over-rated in high school and seemed to play dumb basketball. I’m just not seeing that this is a Top 15 team with Judge, Asparilla, and Nick Russel.
If anything, I could see Frank’s toughness playing out well for him, in a sort of Bob Knight way (minus the savage sexism and true abusive nature of Knight). No one who had any dreams of being coddled would went to IU and eventually his no BS reputation brought him a whole slew of talented and hard-working guys. Yeah—easier to do in Bloomington than Manhattan, so I’m not expecting a couple of championships.
The last part of the half scares me as much as it excites me. We haven’t followed up good play after half since the mizzou game. Prove me wrong, please.
He didn't do anything to actively mess things up on offense and he contributed some things on defense...
and since Diaz wasn’t up to it, we needed VO to play some minutes.
But VO flashing to the middle of the Baylor zone was pathetic. Baylor didn’t care where he was and our players didn’t want to pass it in to him, even though he had no defenders within 5 feet of him inside the FT line (for good reason). That’s mainly what I was talking about. It’s not a good type of game for VO to have to play minutes. Still, he did a good job contributing where he could.
Having VO out at midcourt trying to double team a Baylor guy late in the first half was pathetic.
He is a pretty good defender from the free throw line in, where he can play someone on their strong side and maintain position, but he doesn’t have the skills to be out there trying to do a double team. The Baylor guy flashed a pass right past him to the far side and an easy bucket. Thank God Frank didn’t try to stay in that long.
I'm just starting to come down from the adrenaline.
So many fist pump moments:
JO miracle three point play (accompanied by primal scream)
Angel deep three
Rod shoe-ing up
Game-sealing layup turning into despair
JO with big defensive stop at end
JO playing like we expected him to. Tons of effort. Difference making defense. Enough offense to be a threat.
And Will. Call me crazy. He missed a lot of shots. But he played aggressively. Baylor had to respect the possibility of him shooting. When he’s more attacking like he is today he helps the team be much much better.
I really hope we win this week, and then if we lose next tuesday it won’t matter quite as much and then ku’s steak will die and we’ll still make the tournament.
Anyone else really anoyed with the TV broadcasters?
From the way they talked you would think there was only one team one the court today (that would be Baylor, obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be complaining).
I mean, I know Baylor is a top 10 team and all, but couldn’t you do just a little research on the other team so you could talk about them informatively every now and then?
(missed most of first half on TV, so maybe they talked more about KSU in the second.)
We're finally seeing Frank having a preferred rotation.
The six go-to minutes guys are:
Angel
Sprads
Rod
Jamar
JO
Gip
Then depending on foul trouble/unbearably bad play, we see:
Irving (for Sprads or Angel)
Shane (for Rod)
Vic (for the bigs when the game has a slower pace)
Diaz (for the bigs when the game has a faster pace)
Yes, that’s 10 guys, but it’s really 6 main guys with Irving/Shane and Vic/Diaz used to stretch it at most to 8 and to be brought in situation dependent.
What a shot by Jamar to end the first half. Amazing.
I love the rally by the guys after getting down by so much in the first half (I’ll confess, I checked the score, saw the Cats down 11-20, and then went shopping with the wife). I’m perpetually cranky about the blown leads, but I don’t know that this team has ever given up in a game. I love that about this team.
I think Will is the key to this team. He’s smart but limited, and when he’s actually shooting better than I do, this team can be really quite good.
I’m going to have a serious man-crush on Angel next year.
I miss Shane and Jeremy, but I can’t argue with this lineup.
Martin has assembled one seriously tough team.
Scott Drew is a complete and utter douche. This will be a better league when he’s inevitably fired for recruiting violations. The sooner the better.
Not pretty, not brilliant, but it’s another win over a top-10 team, this time on the road. Good work guys.
However, I thought the officials sucked. We got the short end of most of the calls. After giving up on the Cats after embarassing losses due to lack of fundamentals I decided to give them another chance today. Congratulations on a great win. HOWEVER, a few of the glass is “half empty” comments. No way we will ever be more than an average team if we cannot hit ft (I believe we made 2 out of 6 today—I think they made 10-12), I was screaming for Franky to get Will out of the lineup due to his poor shooting (until I saw Martivious lose the ball out of bounds—looked like he was sleeping or didn’t care), Will had some great rebounds the 2nd half, we pressed BU once in the backcourt (I told my wife they will get an easy bucket which they did just like so many other times this year, I’d rather be lucky than good, however, Jamar 3 point shot at the end of the 1st half was a gift from above and ended up allowing us to win by 1 pt (how can we not have a person in the backcount for the ball to be thrown to—-same thing happen in another recent game),
We’ve seen WAAAAAAY worse on multiple occasions this year. Calls and no-calls went both ways, nothing enough to sway the game one way or the other.
Of the 6 FTs we took, 5 were taken by arguably the worst FT shooters on the team. Wouldn’t read any more into it than our other guys didn’t attack the goal as much as they maybe should have.
Will typically has a positive plus/minus, even when he shoots the ball terribly. Will shouldn’t ever come out of the game unless he is an obvious complete and utter defensive liability.
I get very frustrated about how bad our team is on offense.
And I think that it probably falls on Frank’s shoulders, especially as long as it has been going on. However, I am not about to start bashing Frank and calling for his head. Pan, I usually respect and enjoy reading your comments, but the Frank comments are bullshit. Sean, how long have you been a fan…2 years? C’mon guys. DO YOU REMEMBER WHERE WE WERE JUST 10 YEARS AGO?
Frank might not be an elite coach, but he is the best coach we’ve had since the 80’s! And you guys are seriously going to piss and moan about EVERYTHING? I get as frustrated as anyone about the transfers, substitutions, and offense, but you don’t see me bitching about it constantly. Enough please!
What happens in game threads, stays in game threads. Don’t hold comments against people made in the heat of the moment. I’ve said some regrettable things during games, too. Some of it even ended up slathered all across a Yahoo blog. Let it go.
Maybe I should just be proud that we are in a position to demand more. I just want everyone to still be thankful for what we have. If Frank leaves tomorrow, who the hell is going to come to Manhattan that is even close to the caliber? We’re going to have to start over with a no name coach and hope for another diamond in the rough.
No one is calling for Frank's head. All of us understand this isn't supposed to be a great team.
What I want is continual improvement, and I simply haven’t seen it. Same dumb mistakes from Angel, same crappy offense, same damned issues with TOs, and same big blown leads for over a month now. It gets old. There’s a reason I haven’t be on the site much, and I avoided the game today – all that negativity from me is unhealthy.
That being said, next year’s team is going to be terrific, I love how the team still plays hard the huge majority of the time, and I’m loving what I see from the freshman.
I’m feeling much better today, and it feels good. However, I’m expecting nothing positive on Tuesday, so I’ll likely try to ignore the game because it keeps the game threads and myself (and my wife!) happier.
I will repeat what I've said before about what frustrates me concerning Frank and yes, in some cases almost to the point of saying we've got to look at where he is taking the program as a whole.
His substitution patterns this year have been horrible.
I had a few questions the last two years about his ability to truly handle these youngsters and get them to respond positively overall. He’s got to learn to be a psychologist as well as a coach, because I don’t think he gets across to all of the kids. His “my way or the highway mentality” would be great if that’s the way the world really worked but it’s not. Not in the NBA, not at the college level, and not at the high school level. As a result, we have the turnover we have experienced and like Pan, I don’t think that’s been positive for the program as a whole.
I don’t think Frank is a very good X’s and O’s guy. The staff got him to change some of his approach last year but this year, we’re just trying the same stuff that got Jake good looks, not really paying attention to the fact that Rodney isn’t Jake and Rodney needs some different sets to get the looks he needs.
I’m not saying smoke Frank out of here now, but I do think that John C. needs to have a real long look at the whole of the program and give consideration to where we were, where we are, and where we appear to be going.
The starters played almost the entire game. Gip was the only bench player with significant minutes. There was hardly any yanking of players for mistakes.
As far as the psychology element, the two guys that Frank decided needed to be benched or have time away from the team at some point this season were the two best players on the court for us today and the reason we won. Angel and JO were awesome.
I also greatly dislike the turnover of the roster. To me, that is the only thing I don’t like about Frank. Otherwise I think we are extremely lucky to have him at the helm and Currie doesn’t need to spend a second thinking about Frank after this season unless there’s a need to pay him more money to keep him from leaving for a job opening.
Wow, terrible set of highlights to lead off Gameday.
They just butchered names and teams the whole time.
Angel Hernandez? Talking about Pierre Jackson to Quincy Miller while the highlight of JO’s three-point play was playing? Yikes, guys.
Not normally one to bitch about media coverage, but come on, ESPN. It’s not like we’re chopped liver. We were ranked less than four weeks ago, for crying out loud. Learn the players’ names.
Is anybody else watching Wichita State?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where the two teams’ jersey colors are so similar.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Is WSU wearing their grays?
I don’t care for those at all.
Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
Yep
Me neither. Then need to stick with the blacks with yellow trim. Those are sharp.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
agreed
Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
I also think the all yellow uni is pretty nice.
Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
That's twice they've worn gray on the road that I've seen.
Also did it at Creighton. I don’t see why it’s allowed — way too similar.
Almost as bad as wearing yellow at home, IMO.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Also, it's a horrible shade of gray. Almost as bad as Okie Lite's.

Not that we can judge them too harshly - empty seats in Bramlage for the KU game too ):

Watched a bit of Marquette-UConn before this game.
Marquette could make a big time run in the tourney.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Maybe
But I’d be careful making too many judgments from that game. UConn is pretty terrible. One of the more overrated teams in America, in my opinion.

I don’t like it either, but those guys need to man up and regardless of all other factors play with better effort.

Didn't you hear the announcers?
Frank’s teams always improve and Frank said this year’s team has gotten a lot better over the last month. Unfortunately, it’s been very hard for the rest of us to see.

But there really is no comparison.
Nuff said in my opinion…

MeatGeek - February 18, 2012
Unbelievably poor analogy
And if you really see the 2012 Wildcat basketball team as parallel to the 2008 Wildcat football team, well…
MrHappyMushroom - February 19, 2012
I will allow this season to be the transition year it is
If next season has a veteran team taking the court.
If we see this next year, then there is a discussion to be had. Or, if players depart and result in another young team, it will be time to reevaluate.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
I'm not advocating firing or anything like that. But this year's perfornace review should reflect the product on the court.
It just means that this season should be remembered by the administration and fans. That’s all.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm delighted the Cats won, but it doesn't remove the stink of too many blown leads.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
We have a young team without a go-to guy.
It’s frustrating.
But assuming we make the tournament, Frank will have gotten this team to 20+ wins in every year and the NCAA tournament in four of his five seasons.
Are we really going to find things to complain about when we can easily find things to be grateful for?
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I'm starting to watch the Baylor game now.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
Two wins over Top 10 teams with a team in a "rebuilding" year is pretty good in my book.
Frank Martin has coached the Cats to 7 wins over top 10 teams in his not quite 5 year tenure. The K-State record? Tex Winter at 10.
Frank Martin is a great coach.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He's not a great coach.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
So your measure of success is winning the league/end of season tournaments?
Then there aren’t very many great coaches in sports.
I hear you. I do think there are things Frank can improve, particularly his handling of his rosters. Maybe he is very good instead of great. You could be right.
But I’m not sure why people expect so much more than what he’s consistently delivered – extremely hard working teams that finish in the top half of the Big 12 and make the NCAA tournament. Not only that, but he’s shown his teams have the potential to win games in the tournament (we have never one and done in any tournament under Frank).
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He's a basketball coach. Winning leagues and tournaments are the only measures of success. John Calipari, Rick Pitino, Nick Saban, Bobby Petrino are all awful people, but they're also great coaches (sad how that works).
I expect continual improvement and post-season births every season.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
And it’s something that very few programs have beyond the blue bloods.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
"But all I desire realistically is a program in which every year we’re in the tournament and 2 out of every 4 years have a team that has the potential to make a real run."
Exactly. I expect this out of every team and coach the Cats have right now.
I know full well K-State is never going be what OU and KU have been the last decade in football and bouncey ball, but I demand a team that can put a scare into both programs every year, and beat them when things go well, and get to the post-season. There are too many bowl games and NCAA tourney births for missing either to be acceptable.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
Berths, not births.
Sorry, pet peeve.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Ha ha ha
Oops. I love English.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
What this about Bertha?
MrHappyMushroom - February 19, 2012
I'm wid ya, boozin'...
Yes, sir.
MrHappyMushroom - February 19, 2012
I agree this season has had a lot of frustrating games.
But look at the roster this season. Does that look like talent with which you will win the league/championships?
All things considered, getting to the NCAA tournament this year seems to me like it would be a pretty great accomplishment.
If we’d closed out 2-3 of the games we blew in the second half, we’d be talking about naming the building after Frank instead of getting so annoyed at him.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I think you're selling the team's talent short.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
I'm with boozin' again...
Talent is okay, but there’s no one who can really shoot the ball. Spradling’s 2-11 outings don’t cut it. And that’s not mostly about coaching.
MrHappyMushroom - February 19, 2012
Jones is a pure shooter.
He is just hurt.
Catbacker98 - February 19, 2012
What does "pure shooter" mean?
I really want Jeremy back. Damned injuries.
Sean T - February 19, 2012
That means...
effortless stroke. The kind you see when almost everything that he looks at goes in as long as he “strokes” the shot. Rodney has this when he is on but when he is off he pushes the ball to the rim. It is all in the mechanics of the shot.
Catbacker98 - February 19, 2012
No, Victor, you cannot run the fast break
That was terrifying.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
We aren't going to beat anybody,
no less a top ten team with Will and Rod playing like this.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Opposite of the KU Game...
Angel showed up. Nobody else did…
Kohawk84 - February 18, 2012
For as poorly as we're playing, can't believe down by 7.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I said the same thing when we cut it back to 4. Amazing.
Baylor out-derped us.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Good idea on the alley oop
Angel still needs to work on his touch though
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
No one on this team knows how to throw a lob pass
It’s not that hard.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
How about our guys catch a fucking ball cleanly for once?
Passes, rebounds, whatever-the-fuck-ever.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
yeah
JO is the worst culprit of “wtf I have hands? I still cant catch”
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
The little things.
This team doesn’t do many of them.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
FIFY
gw1754 - February 18, 2012
Thank you Rod
Kohawk84 - February 18, 2012
There we go Rod!
Take more shots please.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Make more shots.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Hello Rodney
nice to have you show up once
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
On paper, there's really no reason not to love Frank.
It’s just his teams are so tough to watch sometimes. Makes it way worse.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Denied by Jamar!
Kohawk84 - February 18, 2012
If we just stop turning it over, we have a slight chance.
Baylor doesn’t want to play D. Definitely not for 35 seconds. They want to steal it. Otherwise, they couldn’t care less about playing D.
I know, no secret there.
Stop turning it over and outwork this fucking no-heart team.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
I like Frank and think he does a good job
Anon_the_younger - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
I like Frank, and he'd do better if he'd work on building a program rather than starting over every year with a new batch of 3 star kids.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
But what did you see in Wally Judge that said,
“Holy, God—give this kid another year and we’ll be in the Final Four!!!”
MrHappyMushroom - February 19, 2012
Sorry Pan I don't get this remark.
I believe every recruiting class has contained at least one 4-star.
Catbacker98 - February 19, 2012
No one in the last class was a 4 star.
But I really like this class, so that matters little.
MeatGeek - February 19, 2012
Nino Williams was a four star I believe.
Catbacker98 - February 19, 2012
This team needs to figure out how to make shots.
Both teams have been sloppy. But BU is scoring, the Cats not so much.
Have to wonder if Jones or Williams could help in this regard.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Making shots all starts with practice... I have doubts they practice offense.
rich04 - February 18, 2012
Starting to heat up.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
How did we not end up with an easy run-out on that play?
Only us.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Again. Make Baylor actually play D. They can't.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
I'm not sure if we are the offensive juggernaut to do that.
rich04 - February 18, 2012
Maybe not, but that's what has to be done to win this game.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Wow, I think i just saw offense
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Man, Will's gotta find his three point stroke.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Gotta hit that 3 Will...
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Terrible foul by Gip.
Gotta be smarter than that.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Fantastic play by Jamar.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
ANGEL!!!!!!
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Mines better cuz it has more exclamation points
:-P
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Nice job Angel!
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Angel ... wow.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Alittle bit of offense goes a long way
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Shane inbounding.
Breath held.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He did step over the line once.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Jamar!!!!!!
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Woot!!!!
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Wow. What a final 8 minutes.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
JAMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Holy shit!!!!
AmmoCat - February 18, 2012
Love the way we played the last 5 min of the half!
rich04 - February 18, 2012
Shake my head...
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
It are these awesome stretches that make the stagnant ones so painful.
And make us all feel like such fools in each direction.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
It's not really that hard to play Baylor even.
They just have to be made to play defense.
Baylor is made to be upset in the first round of the dance.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Baylor is like an NBA team
Loads of talent, no defense, and mediocre coaching
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Mediocre coaching is a huge compliment to Scott Drew. He's atrocious.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
This year's team is his masterpiece.
Baylor could be soooo much better this year.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
I'm not the first person to say this
But I think the more appropriate comparison is AAU, not NBA.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Lead at halftime.
Stand back nonbelievers.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Great defense by the guards that half.
Keep it up and we’ve got a great shot.
Now if only Will could drill a couple threes.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Let's keep it up Cats!
Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
Forget last Saturday already?
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Do this for 20 more minutes
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Agreed
The last part of the half scares me as much as it excites me. We haven’t followed up good play after half since the mizzou game. Prove me wrong, please.
gw1754 - February 18, 2012
Wasn't sure that inbounds was not going to be turnover. And then K-State's best 3-pt shooter...
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Hey dumbasses who run the Big 12 network
nobody watching right now wants to see a KU football commercial…how bout you find something else to show me
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
ku has a football team?rich04 - February 18, 2012
I guess they are trying to start one
they hired a fat guy, and some kid from notre dame is going to play….
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
one free ticket for each parking violation
Anon_the_younger - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
KSU will need to play to win rather than to not lose.
It’ll be up to Frank to make the adjustments necessary after Baylor goes on its (inevitable) 2nd half run.
NamebranD - February 18, 2012
Adjustments like a shitty zone?
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Ugh...
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Ugh, that guy can literally do one thing.
And we allowed him to do it.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He just did three things.
What the fuck can we possibly be thinking.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
This team is allergic to the first five minutes of halves.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
There we go Will!!!
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
So infuriating.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
You think they'd learn
Marbo - February 18, 2012
That's an awful call.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
What a bullshit call by Higgins.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Pathetic.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
That's the word.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Crucial timeout
We need to get a bucket pronto to quell the fire.
NamebranD - February 18, 2012
Yes, and not let their three point shooter, who adds literally no other offensive value
shoot open threes.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
We somehow allow them to get the ball to the least athletic player on the floor twice.
Our defensive prowess is overrated.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Allowing 28 points in the first half would indicate the defense does a lot of very good things.
No question those were three breakdowns though and not going to win playing that kind of defense.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
It's consistency.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Cause we suck in the zone.
Frank’s penchant for calling defenses appropriate to the situation is overrated.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
At the KSU rodeo.
Had to check in though. Low scoring half.
Good D or bad shooting?
Some chick from OK just fell off her horse during break away ropin. Very entertaining.
BlackCats - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
Irving. What on earth.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Why even try to touch that? Gah!
BracketCat - February 18, 2012

Jamar!!
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Alright, weather the storm again.
Let’s go.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Don't you dare reverse this because of Scott Drew.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
They gave the ball back to Baylor?
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Hey refs, way to let Scott Drew make the call.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
obviously off the BU player's knee
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Infuriating.
That is awful.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Scott Drew is the kind of guy I hope gets busted for tax fraud
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
he has that face....
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
He has that ethic.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Just wait a couple more years and you'll get busted for recruiting violations.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Anything above framing a player for murder is a step up for Baylor.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
And then anally porked repeatedly in white-collar prison.
Nothing worse than being some former CEO’s bitch.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
I like this Jamar
need to keep this one around
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I want to throw this laptop across the room
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Maybe if Frank does an epileptic dance after every out-of-bounds call ...
We’ll get them all.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Jesus, Rod. Wide open brick that barely hit the rim.
That just kills me.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
He somehow shot it off balance.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Rodney's hot shooting did not cross over halves apparently...
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Need some stops and to get a couple buckets here.
This could get away from us quickly.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I'd say we need to get to the FT line.
But we all know that’s not going to happen.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
LOL, no shit.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Not to harp on one call which will have nothing to do with outcome,
but official who had best angle called it off Baylor, Drew threw a hissy fit, and official with worse view reverses call.
Makes a ton of sense.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Welcome to life on the road in the Big 12.

Not.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012

Anon_the_younger - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
I'm a vision in stripes.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Make them play defense.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
If you move on offense and cut hard, the defense has to move. Eventually, you'll get a decent look.
Sunvold’s not wrong. People get on him, but he has this team pegged 95% of the time.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
move or set a screen
Anon_the_younger - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
Loving the effort out there.
Just loving it.
This is a team we all could have gotten behind all season.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I agree...so much
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Too bad they brought it in their single hardest week of the season, just about.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
He's not hitting shots,
but I think this might be Will’s best game of conference play.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012

yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
This zone offense is a farce with VO in the middle.
(I like VO, it’s not his fault)
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Great move by Gip
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
THAT is how you bust a zone
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Jamar has been tentative in that spot for some reason.
Gip is not tentative.
VO just can’t do anything with the ball, even from there.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Flop.
But Sprads can’t do that anyway.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I get so mad at Will I could break stuff
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
I think Frank does too....
jtarkman - February 18, 2012

yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
We really, really have to have this game.
It will be Senior Day at aTm. And they’ll be all the way back, injury-wise.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012

yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Miss a layup, grab the board, bring the ball to your knees, then get a deserved technical.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I can't take this
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
No team has ever had less "it".
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Jake took every ounce of "it" with him.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
You need to give up all expectation.
Like I did a couple of weeks ago.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
What horse shit!!!
AmmoCat - February 18, 2012
It was legit. Jamar was beyond stupid for doing that.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
No debate...that was directed at Jamar.
AmmoCat - February 18, 2012
I admit it was stupid but why not call the foul against him on the shot?
ArkieCat - February 18, 2012
I didn't see a foul there
Sure, there was some contact, but you shouldn’t expect to get that in a game like this. Jamar initiated the contact just as much as the other guy.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Didn't see a foul either.
Mental errors have given Baylor 11 points this half.
3 Heslip treys and the Jamar technical.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Have to get that rebound.
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Angel, stop shooting floaters
He can’t hit those consistently.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
He's hit a couple today.
No complaints about Angel’s play today from me.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Yeah
But even when they go in, they feel lucky. I think one was off the glass. I agree, though, for the most part he has been good today.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Developing a deadly floater and being able to reliably hit threes will make Angel a top tier player.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Or if he can just learn to pull up
That would probably be easier and he can hit that jump shot.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Denisesque!
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Come on Gip.

jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Yeah, but Perry Jones was supposed to be a #1 pick in the NBA draft
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Bennet was a 5-star supposed wonder kid
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Only some KSU fans made him into that.
He was a 5-star project all the way.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Yeah.
That guy was a joke. Reading his comments in the Collegian absolutely cracked me up.
GCat - February 18, 2012
I knew one of the managers during that year
he told me the other guys didn’t like him, where always beating (literally) on him
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I could see that happening, but I'd bet he brought it on himself.
GCat - February 18, 2012
Wally Judge.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Jamar has cooled off. Put him back in.
If you want to lose, keep VO in the game.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
I want some Diaz
where has that kid been all game???
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
He probably didn't run a sprint with enough energy this week.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Been a short bench today.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Yes, this is NOT the game for VO.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
I dunno, he played pretty salty defense on Miller late in the game.
And even more important, didn’t foul and grabbed a few key rebounds.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
He grabbed a huge rebound and drew one of the big's fouls late in the game.
Plus he didn’t take a silly shot.
I liked what he brought to the table today. A lot.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He didn't do anything to actively mess things up on offense and he contributed some things on defense...
and since Diaz wasn’t up to it, we needed VO to play some minutes.
But VO flashing to the middle of the Baylor zone was pathetic. Baylor didn’t care where he was and our players didn’t want to pass it in to him, even though he had no defenders within 5 feet of him inside the FT line (for good reason). That’s mainly what I was talking about. It’s not a good type of game for VO to have to play minutes. Still, he did a good job contributing where he could.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Having VO out at midcourt trying to double team a Baylor guy late in the first half was pathetic.
He is a pretty good defender from the free throw line in, where he can play someone on their strong side and maintain position, but he doesn’t have the skills to be out there trying to do a double team. The Baylor guy flashed a pass right past him to the far side and an easy bucket. Thank God Frank didn’t try to stay in that long.
ArkieCat - February 18, 2012
What'd Jamar do for the T?
GCat - February 18, 2012
Got stripped, fouled, than threw his arm and yelled in frustration.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
got pissed after they called him for a foul, made a show
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Angel!!!
Kid has stones.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Big 3.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Angel's fearlessness is a gift and a curse.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
That's the part that reminds me of Denis.
GCat - February 18, 2012
Hands meet ball. Hands hold ball.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
lolwut
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
How many fucking times do we have to watch a good defensive play ...
followed by a dagger to the heart?
We have hands of fucking stone.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
We were straight up, and they call the foul. Was that a makeup?
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Ok, JO, let's hit these.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Well, BU has some foul trouble...
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Holy God, are we going to shoot a free throw?
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
5th free throw of the game!
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
And we're 1-5!
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
In that context, no more FTs.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Oh come on.
This team needs to grow up.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
1-6!
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Sometimes I wish big guys would learn to take a half step back
from the line, to get a better angle
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Is Perry Jones in the game right now? Can't tell I'm on gamecast but he's got 4 fouls.
KSUEMAW! - February 18, 2012
How in the hell isn't that a foul.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
So, how does Miller not get T'd up there?
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
No idea. Precedent has already been set.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Oh my god
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Holy cow!
Marbo - February 18, 2012
And so long Perry Jones.
Marbo - February 18, 2012
I literally just shouted
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Me too
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I don't know what the
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Holy shit
Did that just happen? Incredible.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Gimme some eyes!
What happened?
GCat - February 18, 2012
The play of the year
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
This is accurate
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
That doesn't tell me shit!
GCat - February 18, 2012
alley oop pass from angel to JO for the and one.
Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
Hail Mary alley oop from Angel to JO that fould out Perry Jones
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
SWEET!
GCat - February 18, 2012
Broken lob play
from Angel to JO, JO gets fouled while trying to get it, still manages to hit it in the basket
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
And JO didn't dunk it
Instead he somehow hit a layup as he was falling down.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
SC top playes
Are we talking top 10 play here with the lob and the and 1?
KSUEMAW! - February 18, 2012
OMFG wow
NamebranD - February 18, 2012
Perry Jones is out. Killer.
Not.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Now let's hit this FT.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
wait what's going on? Perry fouled out?
KSUEMAW! - February 18, 2012
Finally got one to go!
And the foul to sit Jones III.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Boom.
Way to go JO.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
FREE THROW
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I mean, they could call that on both teams every time down the court.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I have an idea.
Let’s put Baylor at the FT line for easy point. Like, right now.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Not a good time for bad Jamar.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Jamar...
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Good God. Gip is the only one who has a fucking clue how to play in the middle of that zone.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Maybe Diaz was screwing it up in practice...?
At this point I hope he’s sick. Telling me the team couldn’t use him in the paint?
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
McGruder hasn't scored in the half
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Nice work!
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Thank you
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
My plan all along.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
He just did
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Anyone else?
Keep up the good work.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
We can't possibly win this game!
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Irving. What on earth.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Baylor can't play D. They can't.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
And Rod shoes up
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Shoes up is the battle cry for the rest of the year
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
ay, yo-yo, shoes up beeeyatch!
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Speaking of shoes
I hate those yellow shoes some of the Baylor players are wearing. Gross.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
I have never seen a longer team than Baylor
This team is Jim Boeheim’s dream. Too bad they’re being coached by a mentally challenged buffoon.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Only two reasons he can get those players there.
1) Great base salary and extensive benefits.
2) Practices are a joke.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
No no no.
It’s because Houston is such an attractive metropolis.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Waco rather.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I was gonna say. Houston is awesome.
TB - February 18, 2012
Guys, there have been about five games this year where I've been truly proud of Frank Martin basketball.
And this is one of those games.
Just loving what these guys are doing.
Now let’s hope we don’t fall victim to five more touch foul calls that gives Baylor free points.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
This is an enormous possession.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Freshman
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
(fart noise)
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
In crunch time, Angel really does hold onto the ball so well.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
*doesn't
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Very soon in Angel's career ...
He’s going to finish that play.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Losing this game may kill me
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
It may destroy us all.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
man I hate espn's game cast it takes so long for it to update
KSUEMAW! - February 18, 2012
Yahoo is no better.
GCat - February 18, 2012
Shit.
Marbo - February 18, 2012
What just happened?
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
ESPN decided we'd prefer a useless closeup and/or graphic over watching the play.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Pierre Jackson, Kansas State killer.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Closing out games...
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
I would like to take this moment to remind everyone in the Baylor student section that you actually go to Baylor.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
WOW, we can find every way to lose.
GCat - February 18, 2012
The one player on Baylor that has the heart to steal it ...
Like I said before the first gamr we played Baylor.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Anyone else watching on ESPN3?
The color guy for Baylor just started doing a Who Dat? thing for Pierre Jackson on the last two plays. Now I’m really pissed.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Beauty!
Great play call Frank!
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Wow...an offensive set...
ictcat - February 18, 2012
One of these games has to go our way right? Right?
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Need that play more often
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Scott Drew, I'd love to punch you in the nuts.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Get in line
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
We all would
I would even pay for that
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I liked the other one better
But it’s nice to see Angel proving me wrong and showing he can throw the lob.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012
Big rebound.
Marbo - February 18, 2012
Haha, Baylor fans, you guys are funny.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
GET THE BALL TO RODNEY
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
SOMEONE PUNCH SCOTT DREW STRAIGHT IN THE NUTS
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
TWO TIMES FOR GOOD MEASURE, JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU GET BOTH OF THEM
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
That is a text book no call.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
hmmmmm...
It looked like JO hit his arm

Marbo - February 18, 2012

yeahboozin - February 18, 2012

I hope to see a picture of him crying later.
Ahearn Alley - February 18, 2012

Jeremy Sharp - February 18, 2012
great win K-State
tiemmel - February 18, 2012
Fucked up finish
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
I have never been so angry at the end of a victory.
Considering that stupid turnover happened so close to the end, I was still ranting and raving when we finally won.
Angel, just pull up and dribble. Or go ahead and make the lay-up, but DRIBBLE THE DAMN BALL! Not too hard to remember, you would think.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
Are you being serious?
Say it ain’t so.
Enjoy the victory. We wouldn’t have it without Angel today.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
See below.
Not hounding him, just recounting my experience from when it happened.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
As in, I'm not angry now, it's just that when we actually won, I was still in angry mode from the travel.
Because it all happened so fast.
I’m happy now, for sure. (just realized it read like I was still angry)
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
SCOTT DREW IS A JOKE
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
NCAA tourney, hello
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Thank God!
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
Wow...simply wow...
How the hell did we win this? The last call was a travel but can’t believe we won this.
ictcat - February 18, 2012
Holy shit.
That’s all I got.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Great win.
Great effort
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
This team is 1000x better with JO playing like this.
He won that game for us in the final 1:30.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He is one of the few players that presents something
That everyone has difficulty matching up with.
2.1 seconds left - February 18, 2012
Agreed.
JO at a high level is a must. Without him protecting the rim, the D falls apart.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Think he got a finger on that final shot
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Miller walked on the shot, but probably a good no call at that point.
Good no call on the block by JO too.
ArkieCat - February 18, 2012
We didn't even have to play well.
Just hard. With stretches of not turning it over.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Played like a team, Baylor didn't that's how we got this win.
KSUEMAW! - February 18, 2012
That crazy ass JO 3 point play salvaged his season
NamebranD - February 18, 2012
It salvaged OUR season.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
So how many morons are going to hound Angel for his TO and travel in the final 3 minutes?
Kid played an amazing game.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He'll be a good one, eventually.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
He can change a game already.
That’s big.
Once he improves and becomes a bit more consistent he is going to be better than a good one.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He also changes games for the worse, so don't give the kid too much credit.
Pan is right, he will be a good one, eventually.
rich04 - February 18, 2012
He was in a tough spot
Did need to dribble once, but he was in stride. The pass should have led him one step, then he could have payed it up.
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Yeah, but that was still a stupid mistake.
I’m glad he played a good game, but that travel sent my into such a fury I had trouble enjoying the victory.
I’m not going to hound him, per se, but I don’t think you give players free passes for mistakes just because we ended up winning.
I do think he will be very good, and I’m hoping it will be next year.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
Put on your shoes!
We’re going dancing, baby!
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Shoes up, bitches!
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
I'm still nervous.
GCat - February 18, 2012
We still have three wins to go, I think, to be in for sure.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
I don't know, man. I mean, we can't derp it up too much, but the wins are there
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
Two more wins and we're in.
The importance of today’s victory on the resume cannot be overstated.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
The ISU game has become crucial
That will decide whether the team is definitely in the tourney or if they are on the bubble come Selection Sunday.
2.1 seconds left - February 18, 2012
Fingers crossed for MU?
rjd27 - February 18, 2012
Yeah if they get that one, the ISU game becomes much less crucial
And as a KU alum and Big XII die-hard, I definitely want MU to lose.
2.1 seconds left - February 18, 2012
I don't think ISU is as crucial as winning aTm and OSU.
We can’t afford to lose any more games that are clearly worse than us.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
The aTm game is not going to be fun to watch.
Hopefully, we will have handled business against ISU at that point.
aTm isn’t a good team … but they can easily take us down on Senior Day.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
Whoa, you're a KU guy?
How did I never pick up on that in two years?
Kudos, dude. You’re easily the most reasonable KU guy on the ’Net.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
I agree the wins are there, but two of our remaining three are against bad teams.
We can’t afford to lose either of those without finding our way back onto the bubble.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
I mean four, not three.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Win out at home and we're in.

He was so amped as the buzzer went off.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I'm too freakin' old for these games.
Time to go get some prune juice, a baby aspirin, and a nap.
ArkieCat - February 18, 2012
Scott Drew smugly calling the travel at the end...
Has anyone ever had such a hatable glib face?
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
He's my least favorite coach in all of college sports. I hate him so much.
Panjandrum - February 18, 2012
I also hate Bob Stoops
jtarkman - February 18, 2012
I got to say I hate Venables quite a bit.
He had a great opportunity to redeem himself and instead he went to a team who gave up 70 points in their biggest game of the year.

BlackCats - February 18, 2012 via iPhone app
I'm just starting to come down from the adrenaline.
So many fist pump moments:
JO miracle three point play (accompanied by primal scream)
Angel deep three
Rod shoe-ing up
Game-sealing layup turning into despair
JO with big defensive stop at end
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
JO rebound after missed Angel three
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Two major factors in this win today IMO:
JO playing like we expected him to. Tons of effort. Difference making defense. Enough offense to be a threat.
And Will. Call me crazy. He missed a lot of shots. But he played aggressively. Baylor had to respect the possibility of him shooting. When he’s more attacking like he is today he helps the team be much much better.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Yeah, I was impressed with Will today.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
I was telling one of my friends this week.
I really hope we win this week, and then if we lose next tuesday it won’t matter quite as much and then ku’s steak will die and we’ll still make the tournament.
EMAW 4 Ever - February 18, 2012

These rodeo updates were a really underappreciated component of the game thread.
TB - February 18, 2012
Anyone else really anoyed with the TV broadcasters?
From the way they talked you would think there was only one team one the court today (that would be Baylor, obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be complaining).
I mean, I know Baylor is a top 10 team and all, but couldn’t you do just a little research on the other team so you could talk about them informatively every now and then?
(missed most of first half on TV, so maybe they talked more about KSU in the second.)
ChrisP Wildcat - February 18, 2012
We're finally seeing Frank having a preferred rotation.
The six go-to minutes guys are:
Angel
Sprads
Rod
Jamar
JO
Gip
Then depending on foul trouble/unbearably bad play, we see:
Irving (for Sprads or Angel)
Shane (for Rod)
Vic (for the bigs when the game has a slower pace)
Diaz (for the bigs when the game has a faster pace)
Yes, that’s 10 guys, but it’s really 6 main guys with Irving/Shane and Vic/Diaz used to stretch it at most to 8 and to be brought in situation dependent.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
OSU has now taken 52 free throws.
Suck it, Texas, Suck it long and suck it hard.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
I really, really REC'd this.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
56 total for OSU.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
Page takes a bow.
40 points. Beasley and Clemente can pop the champagne corks now.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Good for the hobbit. 20-20 FTs. Amazing.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
Watching the game now -
What a shot by Jamar to end the first half.
Sean T - February 18, 2012
The end reminded me of the win at Waco two years ago.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recap?gid=201001260050
Sean T - February 18, 2012
Yeah, minus the free throws, because they didn't give us any.
But the same kind of nailbiter, and the same kind of redemption for a previous home loss (Oklahoma State in 2010, Kansas in 2012).
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
I'm biased and prejudice

Don't go there with the refs.

GCat - February 18, 2012
I don't disagree.
Frank is not underachieving with this team. Should not necessarily be held against him.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
Frank is very close to overachieving with this team.
Beyond the two baffling losses to OU, there’s not a single loss that before the season would have been considered disappointing.
It’s just how we lost. If we lost each game by 6-8 points we wouldn’t think twice. It’s the fact we almost won them that makes those losses haunt us.
As is Frank’s delivering probably exactly what he should be with this year’s squad.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
I think that is probably very true.
The ways we’ve lost has been very frustrating.
GCat - February 18, 2012
Hey, man.
What happens in game threads, stays in game threads. Don’t hold comments against people made in the heat of the moment. I’ve said some regrettable things during games, too. Some of it even ended up slathered all across a Yahoo blog. Let it go.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
I don't disagree with this, either.
TheBigE - February 18, 2012
I can definitely agree to this.
However, it’s been going on a while now. .
GCat - February 18, 2012

Seems like a bizarre game to post this after.
Otherwise I think we are extremely lucky to have him at the helm and Currie doesn’t need to spend a second thinking about Frank after this season unless there’s a need to pay him more money to keep him from leaving for a job opening.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
Wow, terrible set of highlights to lead off Gameday.
They just butchered names and teams the whole time.
Angel Hernandez? Talking about Pierre Jackson to Quincy Miller while the highlight of JO’s three-point play was playing? Yikes, guys.
Not normally one to bitch about media coverage, but come on, ESPN. It’s not like we’re chopped liver. We were ranked less than four weeks ago, for crying out loud. Learn the players’ names.
BracketCat - February 18, 2012
Yeah, was horrible.
Also immediately after the game I saw the highlight during halftime of one game and they were questioning whether Miller got fouled on the final play.
No respect.
But then again, not sure we should really care about respect from ES “Chink In the Armor?” PN.
yeahboozin - February 18, 2012
That shit is mind-blowing.
Itchy n Scratchy - February 18, 2012
ESPN still either refers to us as the Jayhawks or runs their logo at times when referring to our games...
in either football or basketball. It is highly laughable to call yourselves the WWLIS and continually make such elementary mistakes.

Hard to concentrate on other conferences while fellating the Big East or the SEX Conference

Don't forget the B1G.
