I'm pretty stoked about how many of these guys are already on campus
Barnett, Bender, Burns, Clark, H. Davis, Gronkowski, Harvill, Hollinshed, Moore, Rooks.
Thats 10 of 25, pretty good percentage if you ask me. Look for those guys to contribute next year
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I find it interesting that we seem to have a pipeline into LA.
Where did that come from?
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
I was thinking that too
whatever works though…I’ll take it!
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
From that game we played @ U-LA-LA of course!
mystman995 - February 1, 2012
OH
When I read the above post, I thought Chris meant Los Angeles, and I was really confused.
Ahearn Alley - February 1, 2012
LOL
I would have typed that as L.A.
Or maybe not.
I actually like to refer to that city as Hollywood because I know it gets under their skin and I hate L.A. (being a San Diego native)
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
I totally knew what he meant...
geez! :-P
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Michael Smith spent years in Louisiana during the first tenure, and now he's back again.
Apparently, this time, he’s actually getting players.
There was a page on NOLA.com that listed all of the D1 prospects in the area (there are a ton), and KSU was mentioned on a large number of those. He’s been doing work down there, heavily for the past few years, and it’s really paying off.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Thats good.
He also seems to be our lead recruiter, which I have no problem with. He doesnt seem to be looking to go anywhere else at this point of his career and is still young (for a coach) and energetic
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Don't forget that Snyder coached at UCLA and at a Cal HS.
I know, that was a long time ago, but good relationships nourished over time have a way of helping you out when you might not expect it. I have the feeling that those old relationships have been used to get introductions to forge new relationships and when you’re willing to look at the 2’s and 3’s that other people are casting aside without a second look, then you become an asset for a coach at the HS and JUCO level.
ArkieCat - February 1, 2012
Just read further and realized ChrisP was talking Lou-eze-anna and not Los Angeles.
Derp.
ArkieCat - February 1, 2012
Yeah, I'll be more clear in the future.
I certainly wasn’t thinking with that abbreviation (even though it is the official postal code for that state).
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Anyone have any idea how good these guys are?
I know everyone is gaga over Bender, but what about the other guys?
Hard to judge. I know they are all probably 3 star guys, but that doesn’t tell me anything except they aren’t freak athletes that get recruited by power schools.
So, thoughts?
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Well...
like I said above we have 10 guys already coming. Bender+3 JUCOS+6 Greyshirts. Regardless of recruiting “rankings” these guys are already in the program and are working, practicing, getting into college life. As we have seen, in college football, and especially in HCBS’s system, being able to participate in spring practice is massively important. Ty Zimmerman came out of his greyshirt year and turned into a freshman All-American.
Otherwise, it looks like a very solid class. There is nothing spectacular, by popular convention, in this class, but it looks like a bunch of kids (mostly HS and greyshirt—4yr guys) who will help build depth and provide some more competition to help our older guys get better.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Solid is the word I'd use to describe it.
All position groups were addressed across the board (with the exception of K/P), and we took a large number of prep players. My guess is that we’ll grayshirt a couple of the prep guys, as per usual, and we’ll end up putting about 21-22 of these guys on scholarship.
Snyder always holds 3-4 scholarships back for potential transfers and kids that may not have qualified at other schools. Also, whatever you don’t sign under the 25 man limit becomes a count back for the next year, meaning we can sign 26-29ish players in the next class, which is going to be Senior heavy. This class is not Senior heavy at all. We may lose fifteen scholarship seniors if Foketi gets that medical hardship.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
From what I understand, that isn't true
You get 25 new scholarships a year, that’s it. if you have any extra you can use them for walk-ons, but you can only give out 25 a year
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
You can use them for JUCO players that sign in the month of December. They are the exception for that remainder.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
From the NCAA
85 total, 25 New per year.
I would think fall Juco signers would qualify as “new” because they were not on the team for that football year
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
But I believe if they sign in the previous calendar year, it can still count back to the previous class.
What you see is gray. We’ve followed this practice for years. I don’t know what the official ruling is, but I know it exists.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Sorry, wrong link for the last one
Here are the NCAA bylaws. The sections we are in question about in 15.5.6 specifically 15.5.6.1 and 15.5.6.3
It complicated, but we are both right
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Wallace over at GPC
was complaining on twitter yesterday about how bad this class was, saying it was the worst in several years. I know we talk about how bad he is at his job, but its one of those reasons I refuse to pay for their service. There is no reason to be so negative about a recruiting class here, given HCBS’s track record. Prince had top 40 classes his last two years, and look where that got him. So what if they ranking numbers look low? If you are running a K-State site like that, just ignore the numbers and look for that pattern of depth building and solidarity.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
The class Wallace compared it to was the one with Freeman, Josh Moore, etc.
He said the 2006 class, with multiple NFL draftees, was the worst in years.
Obviously, he had his years mixed up, or he’s as dumb as we all thought he was.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Yeah, I was think that too
maybe he was thinking 05?
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Not saying that I agree with the class being horrible,
but I’m not sure there is a lot to get really excited about. It looks like a decent class, not too good, not too bad. What he needs to think about is that we are coming off of a 7 and 6 win season so most of the top tier talents in this class were already committed or had good ideas of where they were going. I think next year, unless we fall off the earth, we should be able to pull in a little better class…. Also about Prince’s classes, he was a horrible coach that couldn’t do much with the good players on the team. Its not a perfect system but usually the higher up you are on that list the better chance you have of being good.
rich04 - February 1, 2012
I think it's fair to say that you recruit results the year after you do something good...
But you need to keep that momentum rolling. If we tank in the middle of the season, kids could bail.
The two commitments we already have in 2013 look great. The LB out of Conway Springs, Tanner Wood, is an athletic freak (6’5", 237, 4.7 40). Jordan Willis, DE out of Rockhurst, will most likely be ranked fairly highly in 2013 if what Jeremy Crabtree said about him is true.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Conway Springs is becoming a nice
albeit little and limited, pipeline for us.
jtarkman - February 2, 2012
i swear the last 2 were recognizably smaller and less impressive
Point is I feel like you can see Snyder’s m.o. about getting better daily shining through. Just 1 man’s opinion though I could be way off.
GTcat - February 1, 2012
He was also fighting with his customers on the premium board.
Bang-up business model they’ve got going on there.
BracketCat - February 6, 2012
And with Cantele's little brother already on
the K position appears locked up for a while. Lets hope we get the Rheem brothers out of them. Plus there is also Dillon Wilson, who got a scholly last year and redshirted.
Looking at the roster, there seems to be plenty of depth for next year, so why not use those spots on other guys. Will probably need to go hard after a good punter next year thouhg…paging Sean Snyder.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Not a concern obviously for next year,
but I feel like the cupboard is pretty bare at LB for 2013. Any LB signings I’m forgetting?
yeahboozin - February 1, 2012
I was thinking the same thing, too
Very thin on LB signings and we need a solid (not just OK) replacement for Manny Lamur.
CT-K-Stater - February 1, 2012
I think the staff is looking to Tuggle to fill that role
otherwise, look for a couple JUCO’s and preps for next year’s class.
This year we get Will Davis and Mike Moore and (probably based on size/speed) Matt Seiwert
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Im still pissed from last night....hard time getting into this
ATL Jim - February 1, 2012
I completely understand, though I take the opposite approach.
The only reason I am into this is because I’m pissed about last night.
Otherwise I would probably ignore it like I have every other year.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
It seems like Sam Harvill was a guy in last year's recruiting class
Did he just commit to Kansas State really, really early?
Ahearn Alley - February 1, 2012
Harvill was a greyshirt
committed last year, showed up this year. Same with Barnett, Burns, Clark, H. Davis, Gronkowski, and Moore
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
oops, not Clark
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I don't think Harvill originally intended to
greyshirt, but he blew out his knee during his senior year, or something like that. So, he opted to take the greyshirt year to recover and get healthy.
gw1754 - February 1, 2012
Derp...didn't read below...
nevermind
gw1754 - February 1, 2012
OK
He’s listed as a freshman on last season’s roster (I think he redshirted) and Bracket did a profile on him over the summer. So why does he show up on the list of 2012 signees?
Ahearn Alley - February 1, 2012
Harvill injured his knee (or leg) pretty badly and grayshirted.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
is he the ark powerlifting stud?
GTcat - February 1, 2012
Yep
That’s the guy.
Ahearn Alley - February 1, 2012
As far as I saw
he was not on the official roster for this year.
If he showed up, then my guess is that he, or the coaches, decided to take the semester off so he could finish rehabbing his ACL without losing a year of eligibility.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
This
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Plus, he still has a redshirt year to use
so that’s a bonus.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Which he may still use. I don't know how bad his injury was.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Yeah, thats why I said it was a bonus
sorry didnt expand my thoughts far enough
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Thanks
That all makes sense.
Ahearn Alley - February 1, 2012
Popped his ACL
while on campus for summer drills
http://www.bringonthecats.com/2011/7/14/2258378/51-days-to-kickoff-samuel-harvill
He should be fine now.
feralfeline - February 1, 2012
Players that I really like in this class...
Bender
Gronkowski
Deante Burton (I really, really, really like him…)
Adarius Epps
Dante Barnett
Morgan Burns
Travis Britz
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Today is the first day I heard about Burton.
And I was hoping that he was going to be a good one.
I mean, he is playing right there in Manhattan. Plenty of time and opportunity to fully scout him and make sure he is going to meet our needs.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Word around Manhattan
is that Burton is a stud. Best player on his team. I know some guys that actually watch MHS football and know football (players, coaches) and they saw he is going to be huge for us, on either O or D
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
And Burns gets first shot at tysyn's spot
IMO. Ganious will have to be pretty good to unseat him
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
is it set that he'll be on the D?
I’d prefer to have that athleticism there, given our relatively high number of receivers, but I also wouldn’t complain having a blow-by speed receiver over 6’ tall either.
k-stater86 - February 1, 2012
From what I've heard and read
he plans to play D. with his best fit being a safety position.
And with our current crop of receivers, especially with the class coming in, I would expect him to be buried on the depth chart there. He could play/back-up immediately if he played D. And we also really need some speed over there…
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Dante Barnett also looks to be playing D
at either Corner or Safety
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I probably ought to be clear that I'm bullish on Gronkowski because of the genes
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Naturally.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Supposedly most athletic of the bunch.
yeahboozin - February 1, 2012
I've been excited about him for quite some time now.
Jeremy Sharp - February 1, 2012
If you don't love Marquez Clark, you ain't got no soul.
BracketCat - February 6, 2012
Will Davis
From what I read about him at kstatesports.com, and from what I know growing up in Keller,Tx, right outside of Southlake, that guy could make an impact at linebacker pretty quickly.
KSUEMAW! - February 1, 2012 via mobile
I don't understand why he wasn't more highly rated?
D MVP of the State title-winning team, first team all-state in his class, and academic stud. Who wouldn’t want this kid????
Great steal, by our very own Sean Snyder!
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
And again, another reason why "rankings" in our case are meaningless
He looks (outside of skin tone) just like Tre Walker, and I would be more than pleased to have another kid like that roaming the defensive backfield. Put some pounds on in his first year, then let him go chase down some QB’s
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Will Davis was a good get.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Too bad we have to wait till this summer for him to get here
I like being able to see the new guys at the spring game
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
whats the hieght and weight
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 1, 2012 via iPhone app
6'1" 215
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
6'1", 213 lbs.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Lame....
I swear, you don’t listen to me…..your supposed to be my brother!! :cries a little::
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I actually started replying before you.
But I wanted to double check my totals on rivals to see if KSU was inflating his stats any.
Then I switched back and hit “POST” without even looking to see that you had already replied (with the incorrect weight, I might add).
ChrisP Wildcat - February 1, 2012
I rounded up
you can gain or lose 2 pounds over the course of a normal day.
And I didn’t need to double check, cuz I’m good like that
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
He took a big poo right before Chris weighed him...
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
Probably hadnt drank any water that day either
I went to a very pro-wrestling HS, and those guys did all sorts of crazy things to drop two or three pounds on weigh-in day to make weight.
jtarkman - February 2, 2012
We didn't have wrestling at my school,
but I once heard about a guy from a different school in our county that somehow dropped around 8-9 pounds in like one day. Wasn’t clear exactly how he did it, but I think it involved pills. Hard-core competitive wrestling has a very scary side.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
Agreed
there were many bizarre things you could and couldnt do. You couldnt have any fluids, and nothing with bread or vegetables, but you could have chips because they physically weighed less…
jtarkman - February 2, 2012
Small world.
I’m currently living in Keller for 4-5 months/year.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
Not that there was much chance of it
I guess we can officially forget about Matt Wallerstadt becoming our next d-coordinator. Apparently he’d rather be the linebackers coach at Texas A&M. I’m sure tomorrow we’ll hear Snyder announce Tom Hayes has been promoted to the post. As I bang my head against my desk I can already hear the screaming…
CT-K-Stater - February 1, 2012
I am still holding out the ever faint hope that
Levitt will actually decided to come back, or that Tom Bradley will come.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Not. going. to. happen.
I’d love it to, but I’ve given up on any inspired hires by Snyder at this point. It is what it is. And if he wins 10 games again next year who am I to complain?
CT-K-Stater - February 1, 2012
That's why I said it was my faint hope
I also don’t really see it happening
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Rumor is that the Hayes (DC), Joe Bob (LB), and Seiler (DE) is already well on the road to happening.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
I know, I know
as championed by Robinett and the guys at GPC.
I would rather see Hayes (Co-DC, LB’s) Joe Bob (Co-DC, DE’s), Gordon (DB’s)
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Listening to Snyder's interview on KStateHDTV
he said they’ve already chosen a D-coordinator and the only thing left is reworking the contracts. So it looks like you’re right, Pan, and Tom Hayes it is. Now I will go and pour myself the stiffest drink possible in order to drown my frustrations.
CT-K-Stater - February 1, 2012
should prove how much of the problem was cosh then
Since the formula isn’t changing much. Though I will be happy for Joe bob and Blake. First ever ksu fb game I attended was as a 5th grader with Blake and his family and mine. We likely watched Joe bob (too lazy to fact check, could a been 1 year premature) play that day. It was a loss to cu in 1995 to close out the regular season on Patrick double pass. It was clear from that day on Blake"s dream was to play fb for ksu.
GTcat - February 1, 2012
That was a great, great game ...
You know, except for the fact that we lost and lost out on what would have been KSU’s first Cotton Bowl.
Rae Carruth, James Kidd, and Phil Savoy … they made even John Hessler look good. I think Christian Fauria was playing for them at TE, too.
The late KSU TD was the loudest the stadium had ever been, to that point in history.
Joe Bob didn’t play, but he would have been a freshman (after a redshirt year in ‘94-’95).
Itchy n Scratchy - February 2, 2012
That was the game Stoops left Joe Gordon
out on an island repeatedly at the end. No safety help at all for the corners in the 4th quarter. Tough, tough loss. That ’95 team was really good, too.
CT-K-Stater - February 2, 2012
Didnt the tom bradly buzz just come out of a joke
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 1, 2012 via iPhone app
I dont know what "buzz" there was
I know I have talked about it a couple times, just as a wish, a dream. I don’t actually think he might come here, nor have I heard he even looked out here, I just wished he would.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I believe Wallerstadt was 'encouraged' to find other employment by AF.....
AmmoCat - February 1, 2012
I prefer to curl up in the fetal position, while weeping softly.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
So I'm confused...
did we land Reed or did he double switch back to KU?
yeahboozin - February 1, 2012

yeahboozin - February 1, 2012
From the Manhattan Mercury
a story on Deante Burton.
Also, a kid going to JUCO who hopes to come back to town.
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
So we have 25 kids listed on the K-Statesports.com
official recruiting list. Only kid it looks like we are waiting on is Vernon Vaughn, the kid from KC, to make it 26.
Anybody have any word on him??
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
He is finally up
According the K-StateSports, should be our last signing
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I would like to see bender greyshirt this year
If Sams is really all we think he is than we could get two years out of him instead of just one.
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 1, 2012 via iPhone app
Except Bender is already enrolled and taking classes
at the most, he could take a redshirt this year
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
The way that snyder made it sound, it doesn't matter.
He said they can go to school for a semester, go into out of season weights, go to spring practice and spring game, and summer workouts, and then they (and I’ve always wanted to say this) don’t have to go home but can’t stay here.
EMAW 4 Ever - February 1, 2012
Their QB battle in the next four years is going to be pretty significant.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Pan, with your eye for QB's
who was better coming out of HS? How well do you seem them panning out in college?
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Bender is more polished. Sams is more dynamic.
Bender, if you work with him, is a safer bet. Sams, if you work with him, has the highest upside of any QB we’ve recruited, in Snyder’s system, outside of Bishop. Better than Beasley, Dunn, Ell, Meier, Evridge, Webb, etc. All of them.
No one touches Bishop. No one. He was the pinnacle of what we do here.
Both of them are good. I think Bender could help us develop a more balanced offense, but the running game wouldn’t be as dynamic. It would be like with Klein; we’d use him and the rest of the backs to grind it out. Sams gives us the potential to hit a home run every time he tucks and runs, or rolls out of the pocket in general. However, contain him, and we may have problems. Whereas if you contain Bender, we’d probably be okay either way.
So, maybe to summarize better, Bender gives us a chance for more balance. Sams gives us a chance for more big plays. Both are great fits for what we want to do, and we’re in very, very good hands for the next 4-5 years.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Is it me or Beasly was worlds ahead of Ell, Meier, AE and Webb....or are you just talking out of HS?
ATL Jim - February 1, 2012
This is going to be like Beasley vs. Ell, but at the same time instead of them being three years apart.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
Thanks
thats pretty good to hear. Would it possibly serve us better to let Bender be QB and move Sams to WR or RB? Thoughts?
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Possibly, but that's discounting good guys that are recurited specifically for those positions, and assuming K-State will have the luxury of depth at QB to facilitate that
I’d rather have both stay at QB. It is the most important position on the field, and these two sound fantastic as a pair.
Sean T - February 1, 2012
My thinking too
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
In my perfect world,
Bender wins the job post-Klein, while Sams becomes a “Slash” player (WR/RB/QB/PR/KR). Sams would throw a few passes per game, have at least a few balls thrown his way, and run the ball several times as well. This, combined with (perhaps) becoming a part of the return game, would give him 12-15 touches per game, while giving us a solid true QB as well.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
So kinda like that one guy from mizzou who plays for the bills
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 2, 2012 via iPhone app
Rough estimate on how many wins him and sams could account for
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 1, 2012 via iPhone app
I can't speak for Pan's ability to estimate that, but I've always disliked crediting QBs with wins
Yeah, QB is the most important position, but it isn’t Marino’s fault his Dolphins never won a Super Bowl, or Elway never even played in a bowl game (I don’t think). It takes a team. Get Optimus Klein the 1998 or 1999 defense, and I think this team smashes OSU, and may beat OU. Give Bishop one of Prince’s “defenses” and he would have struggled to get to a bowl game too.
At any rate, Sams and Bender shouldn’t be the limiting factor in the number of wins their teams achieve. I daresay last year Coffman wasn’t the limiting factor in 2010, but Gregory and Coffman may have been the limiters in 2009.
Sean T - February 1, 2012
Oh, I'd call Carson a limiter in 2010.
He didn’t have a bad year, but an adequate passer coupled with the Molasses Sweep and that team was never, ever going to win more than the seven that it did.
Klein may not have been ready yet, but I still have to think that Bill didn’t make the right call that year. Klein lit up Texas. At the time, folks said, “Yeah, but you can’t count on winning games like that without having a passing game”. This last year proved that a Collin Klein-led team can win games in a startling variety of ways. And I can’t help but wonder if he might have been a much more effective passer this year with half a dozen starts under his belt.
MrHappyMushroom - February 2, 2012
But that team would have won more games, perhaps both Baylor and CU, if the defense had been even poor, not historically awful
That’s why Carson wasn’t the limiter. 11 of us BOTCers would have run for 150 yards on that defense.
Sean T - February 2, 2012
This, exactly.
Our offense was not a problem in 2010.
I do tend to agree that Klein should have maybe been the starter post-Texas, but I vehemently disagree that Coffman was a ‘limiter’ for that team.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 2, 2012
I don't see a game-manager as being a limiter
it didnt limit the Baltimore Ravens in 02…
if the D hadn’t been so historically awful, as said above, we might have won a couple more games
jtarkman - February 2, 2012
Yeah, that's what I was saying...
And, as much as a “game-manager” that Coffman was, we still had one of K-State’s most productive offenses ever.
ChrisP Wildcat - February 2, 2012
By colorado the defense had pretty much given up
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 2, 2012 via iPhone app
I think if Bender is the QB, you'll see consistent 7-9 win season potential with the offense.
With Sams, I think you’ll see a season like 2001 with Roberson where he really takes his lumps the first year, but the following two years, he’s incredible.
I don’t want to cop out, but I think you’d see an equal number of wins between the two. I just think with Sams, you have a chance for a couple of 10+ win seasons after a 6-7 win one.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
I would gladley take a 7 win season if I knew there was 2-3 10 win seasons on the horizon
EMAW 4 Ever - February 2, 2012
My god, I loved reading that!
And I’ll never tire of remembering Michael Bishop. What a wonderful, wonderful player. He was that awful fumble away from possibly being considered one of the ten best to ever play the position. Sigh.
MrHappyMushroom - February 2, 2012
According to Rob Cassidy
late commit Judah Jones will greyshirt this year and spend the year touring with his family band “Forever Jones”(who is Grammy nominated)
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
why does this sound like an NCAA violation waiting to happen

^not this^
k-stater86 - February 1, 2012
instead
I think this will just be some awesome story that gets put together when we are playing in a BCS bowl in 2 or 3 years. like the rev from ’ remember the titans’
k-stater86 - February 1, 2012
Yeah, that would be fun
Maybe we can get them to play a concert at BSFS (if there is enough interest in their music…)
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
I'm not hoping for it.
And hopefully nothing will come of.
EMAW 4 Ever (iphone) - February 1, 2012 via iPhone app
The fact that he has a Grammy Nominated Family Band going
Is just all kinds of awesome.
MeatGeek - February 1, 2012
Glad I missed this discussion today.
Anon_the_younger - February 1, 2012
Why?
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 2, 2012
Because it doesn't really matter.
Spring game will show some of what to look forward to next fall, but even then things can change.
But glad the rest of you are excited about this.
Anon_the_younger - February 2, 2012
What about that guy who is coming to KSU because of the Architecture program?
I didn’t see him listed. Was he part of last year’s class?
Jeremy Sharp - February 1, 2012
Yes, he was a preferred walk-on I believe
Xavier Gates.
CT-K-Stater - February 1, 2012
Yes
and according to the bylaws, as I read them (and posted above) Snyder can give him a scholarship next year without it counting against a recruiting class
jtarkman - February 1, 2012
Correct, and I would assume he'll get one, as most PWO's usually do.
Panjandrum - February 1, 2012
on behalf of myself and catbacker98 good luck with that time managemenrt conundrum
And why couldn’t he have been in my studio to get insider info? Though j.more RA lived on my dorm floor my Fr year and dated a gal in architecture for awhile

Just watched the highlights for each signee on K-State HD.
A couple of standouts I didn’t expect:
All of the WRs look very good. Clark has big time speed. Judah, Burton, and Vaughn all seem to have very good hands and playmaking ability. Man, if Sams or Bender turns out to be the real deal as we imagine one or both will, look out. They have some major weapons at their disposal.
On the subject of weapons, wasn’t as impressed with the RBs.
The two players that looked most impressive were Travis Britz and Demonte Hood. Man those guys have motors and are damn athletic for their size. Could be major players down the line for us.
yeahboozin - February 1, 2012
I was most impressed with Levarrit and Clark
EMAW 4 Ever - February 2, 2012
Watched Leverett's reel on Rivals
and now am much more impressed by him. Could be a steal.
And yeah, Clark is definitely the real deal. If Baby Lockett can be 100% coming off his injury, that receiving corps will be scary.
yeahboozin - February 2, 2012
only if klein works on speeding up that release of his
k-stater86 - February 2, 2012
Clark, specifically, was very, very good at YAC.
Klein really progressed as a passer over the course of the season. With an entire offseason dedicated to him being “the man”, and going through camp and the fall, I think he’ll improve as a passer.
Now, his upside is limited, obviously, but I feel like the Texas A&M version of Klein is not out of the question.
Panjandrum - February 2, 2012
Leaverett (sp?) has a nice motor. He seems to take a hit well and keep moving. The same with Jones.
Leaverett seemed to have more size and upside. However, I thought Jones ran with a certain amount of strength and shiftiness.
Basically, both of them are good backs to have in a RB-by-Committee approach. Jones, specifically, looked like a shiftier version of Hubert, but maybe with a hint less top end speed.
Panjandrum - February 2, 2012
Ouch.
This is not good:
I love Hubert’s heart and toughness, but K-State really needs another back to step up and take more pressure off of Klein. Too often last season Hubert was unable to do so (the Iowa State and Miami games excepted). This back doesn’t have to necessarily unseat Hubert, but they do have to carve out a niche supplemental role for themselves that elicits more than the occasional Angelo Pease-in-the-Wildcat package.Further, as I’ve pointed out repeatedly, Hubert is a non-entity in short-yardage and goal-line situations. K-State would almost be better off lining up with 10 men on offense in those situations. This is something Snyder needs to look at long and hard this offseason, whether it be running new packages, lining players up differently, or simply finding a back on the roster capable of filling that specific role. I’m really hoping Demarcus Robinson steps up in the spring and pushes Hubert hard for the starting position.
CT-K-Stater - February 2, 2012
Hubert almost had a 1000 yd season.
If you look at games where he did not fair as well you will find inconsistent or poor line play.
Catbacker98 - February 5, 2012
He's got a lot of heart, but
there’s a reason that the only schools (other than us) that offered him a scholarship were Idaho St., La Tech, Montana St., and North Texas.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - February 5, 2012
I wouldn't worry too much about RB
I’m pretty high on De Robinson. Think he redshirted last year. Tiny shifty guy who has good speed. He’ll give Hubert a run for his money this next year and if not would be a solid 2. Not sure that Pease should be counted on.
BeYard2 - February 2, 2012
RS'd two years ago, sat out all of last year
he’ll be a JR next year with Hubert.
jtarkman - February 2, 2012
DeMarcus Robinson will be a RsSO next year
feralfeline - February 2, 2012
You are correct
His BIO fro K-State sports.
I keep think he’s a year older than he is. Just have to remember that Randle @ OSU is a true sophomore, and they are the same age
