West Stadium Center Campaign (via kstatefans)

K-State Football

Stay tuned today for plenty of Cotton Bowl posts. Also, check out Q&As I did with Arkansas Expats and Bowl Season.

As you saw in the video above -- and if you didn't watch it, do it now -- K-State unveiled last night its plans for expansion of Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The campaign was unveiled at last night's pep rally at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. K-State's fans caused a stir on Twitter when 20,000 of them showed up for a pep rally. David Ubben observed that showing up even after a monumental bowl snub is the difference between K-State and other programs.

I disagree that this team might be Snyder's best ever, but that shouldn't minimize anything that they've done.

Sam Mellinger takes a look at what Snyder's done in the context of others his age. You shouldn't be surprised to hear that it's even more impressive in that context.

Kevin Haskin writes that even if K-State beats Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl, Bill Snyder's approach will not -- and should not -- change.

Even Texas fans want us to roast some Razorbacks tonight. Big 12 solidarity!

K-State Basketball

It's easy to get lost in the lead up to the Cotton Bowl, but K-State has a huge basketball game on Saturday when undefeated Missouri comes to Manhattan for the final time as a conference rival.

LOL

K-State sells its allotment of 13,000 tickets and then sells 1,000 more tickets

Once again K-State sells more to a bowl game than the initial ticket pool.

Go State! Go Cotton!

At BurntOrangeNation one of the links is to a Slive interview.

Slive is wanting the plus one it looks like.

The Plus One is like putting pig on a lipstick, much better to get rid of the bowls and go to a standard NCAA playoff.

Landry Jones returning next year.

Looks like we have some competition as the team to beat in the Big 12 next season.

http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2012/1/6/2686668/cotton-bowl-2012-preview-kansas-state-arkansas-football – Arkie by ~5? Yeah, that sounds about right to me too, but I’m not going to make a prediction on this game. Too many variables and unknowns for me to have any confidence. I know the Wizard will have the offense ready but I know nothing outside of that.

The best team in KSU’s history, and likely ever, was the 98 squad. This team is likely the most over-achieving and possibly the most fun to watch (assuming they haven’t given you a heart condition).

I didn't really want to say anything but I can't really help it ...

It’s a joke to consider this year’s team as a contender for “best KSU team ever”. This team would have been steamrolled by numerous KSU teams under Snyder.

But it is, without question, the most feelgood story of the Snyder Era. Such an easy team to root for … never a burden of expectation, so the viewing experience was like nothing I’ve ever been through as a KSU fan. Awesome, awesome year.

it's undoubtedly the most overachieving snyder team

And I think I’m in a little denial myself b/c it doesn’t feel like it should be considered for “best KSU team ever”, but let’s stop kidding ourselves, there’s no way it’s not in the top 4 or 5. 11 wins (if they win tonight) is 11 wins anyway you slice it, and I don’t think there were other 11 win seasons with this many wins over ranked teams. Go back and look at the schedules…

You can definitely make an argument for top 5 ...

I wouldn’t. And not a contender for the top spot. That’s just my opinion.

Also, I’m not arguing that over pure win/loss/schedule strength factors. I’m arguing it over how Team X would do against 2011 KSU. Though the wins/losses of past schedules are better than people usually remember. Especially all the ranked teams that were totally destroyed by KSU.

I would take all of the following against this team, with most of them being a mismatch:

1997
1998
2000
2002
2003

And I could argue for 1995 and 1999 as well.

But, in terms of resumes … if we win tonight, you could put that resume in the top 3 all-time and argue for best.

Agree again

I think 1998 Wildcats would utterly destroy 2011 Wildcats if they played against each other.

But, 11 wins is 11 wins (assuming we win tonight), and when looking at what our (and everyone else’s) expectations were heading into this season, you certainly have to take special note of what has been accomplished.

Also, we currently only have one win over a ranked team this year (Baylor).

Which is the only one that was ranked at the time that we beat as well.

Still, this is the most surprisingly enjoyable and likeable KSU team ever, by far.

True

But I would also argue that while we only have one win over a ranked team (now or at the time we played them), we beat several teams that are “better” than us (talent level, statistically, etc), which was also not really the case in 1998. In 1998, I would argue that we really were one of the 3 most dominant teams during the regular season. We had a top 5 offense and defense that year, and really only had “difficulty” in the Nebraska game, IIRC.

I think UT should be ranked, but low

Also, Baylor is going to finish ranked really well so that has to count for something.

Very well put.

I agree on all accounts.

There is more funny stuff out to enjoy today than in all of 2011. I like 2012 already!

The animated gifs are amazing (except for #11, which is pathetic), particularly Victoriano. Wow.
