If there is a 4-team playoff that year just put the NC trophy in Vanier already. Florida State would have been a cakewalk, and that Tennessee. That team, while scrappy and with a tough D led by Al Wilson, would not have beaten us. Definitely not with the highly underwhelming Tee Martin at QB. The Vols were good, but had at least 2 ridiculously lucky wins that year (Syracuse, Arkansas) and a fortunate matchup with an injury-plagued Miss. State team in the SEC title game ( and still almost lost). That K-State team, along with the ‘83 Nebraska and ’86 Miami teams, is the greatest to ever NOT win a national championship. I’ll never get over it.
Now, where is Itchy-N-Scratchy with the matches and lighter fluid??? I’m waiting to torch myself.
What games did he watch? Our destruction of Syracuse comes to mind. I personally saw him throw off his back foot 60+ yards down field to a one handed Kevin Lockett in what was possibly the best college play I ever saw in a stadium. Besides we took that Vols team out back of the woodshed a year later in the Cotton Bowl.
No way we lose that year...none.
If Bishop does not fumble and Stoops et al. don’t blitz EVERY down we play Tennessee and win the MNC…period.
