DA DISRESPECT! He put Missouri in…oh he put them in only 2 times? Oh well…wait what? Doesn’t he have some statistical model that should have put them in for every one of their games? You’d think he would have thought of that and developed one.

WTF w/ the OSU/KSU highlights!!??
You’re telling me the only highlight reel he could find was this OSU fluff piece?! Pretty sure there was another team in that game. And do they seriously say “pistols firing” after every TD? That’s kinda gay IMO.
Jeremy Pontow - January 13, 2012
They also say in the stadium...
HERE COMES BULLET!! O-S-U! O-S-U! O-S-U! U-S-O! U-S-O! U-S-O!
Yes if you were wondering, they chant as they see the flags that come behind the horse coming out. As they see them, so as they turn the corner and see it in the other direction they chant the opposite depending on the side of the stadium they are on.

Not to nitpick,
but I’d switch the KSU- aTm game into the top ten instead of the KSU-Baylor game. To me, that aTm game was arguably the best in B/12 history, and yet for the purpose of a yearly ranking, for some reason I agree the KSU-OSU game felt “better.” I know that doesn’t make sense, but …
Haven’t made it all the way through. Is KSU-Miami on the list?

I'm not a pop drinker, but that conversation about the Dublin Dr. Pepper made me want to try it
So when the wife and I went to Shiner, TX over Christmas break, we stopped in Waco at the Dr. Pepper museum. We were able to buy some Dr. Pepper made with sugar. It wasn’t truly Dublin Dr. Pepper (it wasn’t made in Dublin) but it was the exact same recipe. I compared it to regular HFCS Dr. Pepper, and I agree, I think it’s better. Cleaner aftertaste and not as heavy, but also not quite as sweet.
I also thought this quote on a great big board on the top floor was telling:
“I believe America’s greatest contribution to the diet of the world is carbonated soft drinks.” – from one of Dr. Pepper’s early chairmen.
Sean T - January 13, 2012
soft drinks might be one of the greatest contributors to:
heart disease
obesity
diabetes
acne
impotence
blindness
etc
xrayxtals - January 13, 2012
I know
That’s why I thought it was such an inappropriate quote. It’s probably 50 years old, and maybe at that point people believed, but I’d take the sign down and burn it today.

It’s the first time the Eagle/Star has done it this way, but I think it’s a good idea. Jtarkman is just saying that Kellis is officially a Wichita employee first, which means he reports to the boss there and probably gets his paychecks, etc. from that office.

KU apparently hired Dave Campo as DC
Really? Really?
Campo is that one Cowboys coach that you remember as, “Who got canned before the hired Parcells? Chan Gailey? Did they hire Parcells after Switzer? No, that can’t be right. There was someone else in there. I know there was.”
That’s an officially acceptable answer if you’re in a trivia contest, BTW.

Panjandrum - January 13, 2012
Campo hasn't been bad as a secondary and DC coach, he just isn't a pro head coach.
Reading through the wikipedia article, I was expecting him to not be very good but he’s been on championship caliber teams as a coach.
Can he coach the talent KU has and make it effective, that is the real question.
Anon_the_younger - January 13, 2012
I'm not sure what to think, if you want a horrible KU homer's perspective
And if you don’t, well I’m going to type it anyways (sorry).
On one hand, the guy has been around a lot of tremendously successful defenses. On the other hand, I can’t get the memory of his stink job as HC out of my head. Then again… wasn’t Quincy Carter his QB? Drew Henson? BOTH?!?!
He is old though. I think in the end, our defense needs a lot of help with the basics. Our fundamentals were atrocious. Poor tackling, out of position, etc. Hopefully this is just a “experienced guy to shape them up” deal. I can live with that.
Andrew Clark - January 13, 2012

Anon_the_younger - January 13, 2012
Okay. After Troy Aikman.
Panjandrum - January 13, 2012
I think Romo is a bit underrated
Hes no Rodgers or Brees, but he is a solid top 10 QB, if not top7. Aikman got the benefit of a great defense, run game, and rediculous offensive line.
Andrew Clark - January 13, 2012
Romo shows flashes of not suckitude
surrounded by ineptness. He is at best a Top-25/solid back-up type of guy. Dallas is never going to win anything big until the replace Romo, and I’ve said that ever since he has been the starter. What started out as a lousy experiment has turned into several lousy years for Dallas.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Man, I'm glad you don't make personnel decisions for the Cowboys.
QBs with a 64.5% career completion percentage, to go with 20,000+ yards and over twice as many TDs as INTs don’t get there by showing “flashes of not suckitude surrounded by ineptness.” He is one of the top 5 guys in the league as far as fourth quarter passer rating goes as well. It’s an absolute myth that Romo is the root of the problems with the Cowboys.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
I disagree. But, like you said, I don't make those decisions
I have not now, nor ever seen him as a Top 5 QB, let alone Top 10. Brees, Rodgers, Rothlesburger, PManning, EManning, Brady, Rivers, Ryan are legit Top 10 QB’s (not in that order necessarily), and I would pick Palmer, Shaub, and Cutler over Romo anyday. You put Matt Cassell on those Cowboys teams and you win more games than Romo…
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Come on now Tarkman!
Palmer and Cassell over Romo? Come on man!
Agree with your top list excluding Matt Ryan. He’s a solid game manager but hasn’t shown as much as Romo has at least to this point in his career. I was at the game last Sunday in NY and he was dreadful.
Schaub and Romo are fairly similar but gotta give edge to Romo since he’s actually won something. Not much, but something.
yeahboozin - January 13, 2012
its not "tarkman" but that aside
Yes Palmer over Romo anyday. Not Cassell necessarily.
Romo tries too hard but doesnt have the physical skills. He makes bad throws. Cassell doesnt try hard enough, but doesn’t make as many “big” mistakes. My point with Cassell is that, you give him the tools and weapons that Romo has (better than what he has in KC, still less than that of NE) and he wins 2-3 more ball games.
Romo is flashy, but there is a big element of Big Risk/Big Reward to his game. Sometimes he comes out and is lights out, and other times its really bad. I wouldn’t trust him to win games for me on a regular basis.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
It doesn't sound like you've watched many Cowboy games.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
Watched plenty
Though I know you’re from Texas and know so much more about this than everyone else
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Nice deflection.
What QBs do you know that have put up similar numbers that you would describe as you describe Romo?
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
Didn't mean to insult by calling you Tarkman.
Assumed it was your last name. And it was fun to imagine saying with enthusiasm.
I guess I just think Romo’s rep precedes him. He actually didn’t turn it over much this year. I think people still remember that fumbled snap in the playoffs. Which to be fair is probably his signature moment right now.
But I disagree re: talent. I think he’s very talented. He just hasn’t had that moment yet.
And this is coming from a Giants fan so I now must blow up my computer for writing this.
yeahboozin - January 13, 2012
Dear god, I wasted my 2,000th comment discussing Tony Romo.
Kill me now.
yeahboozin - January 13, 2012
Sorry... didn't mean to waste your milestone!
didnt think this was going to become such a heated discussion either…
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Sorry, didnt take it as an insult
but it isnt my last name. the first two letters are, the send three is a place (part of it anyway) and, well, the last three should be obvious after that.
And I get where you are coming from now, and I don’t disagree that doesnt have talent (even though that’s what I said). I misspoke, and really meant mental. I forget the fumbled snap as a screwup made in the
heatcold of the moment (laces out Dan??) but with the talent he has to work with on offense, the Cowboys should win more games than they do. That’s what I’m trying to say…jtarkman - January 13, 2012
There really IS no way to rationally discuss Romo,
with someone who is sure he’s nothing more than a “solid backup.” So I will quit the field.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
I said also
Top25. Shaub was/is in that category as well. And there is now way to discuss anything with someone who gets their panties in a wad anytime someone doesnt absolutely agree with their position. You did it yesterday with Bill C, and you’re doing it today with me.
And yes, we’re going to argue back because there is no reason for you to get incensed over something so trivial as slotting Tony Romo (who has no relation to K-State) among NFL qb’s, and where someone ranked the Missouri Tigers in their way-too-early preseason ratings.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Disagreeing with someone who is wrong isn't "getting your panties in a wad."
You’re wrong about this. It’s nothing personal, that’s just the way it is. A QB doesn’t put up the type of numbers Romo has, and not be a really good QB.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
My opinion is never wrong
because it is by definition NOT FACT. Likewise, you’re opinion is not wrong either.
You think Romo is fabulous, and I think they could do better…fact is he starts in the NFL, and stays above .500 most of the time, so he’s better than at least 16 other guys
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
It's not "opinion" to make the claim that he's at best top 25, and at worst a "solid backup."
That is something that can demonstrably be show to be untrue.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
You can throw numbers at me all you want
but my OPINION is that he isnt that great. Good, but not great. I can think that all I want, its my right.
Sure, I may disregard the numbers, but I see something that you don’t, and you obviously see something I don’t.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
It's not that I "see something you don't",
it’s that the facts don’t support your view. You’re free to believe whatever you want, but that doesn’t mean that someone who introduces you to facts that contradict your biased opinion is bullying you.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 14, 2012
Isn't this the exact same argument Bill C. was using to justify his ranking of Missouri
And you were claiming his stats and facts were useless.
smitty3268 - January 14, 2012
You have this tendency to get butthurt
over people’s opinions and that makes it nearly impossible to have reasoned discussions with you.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Good grief.
My posts have all been rooted in demonstrable facts. You’re the one making rather outrageous claims. You even brought up where I live as some kind of argument against me.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
You keep bringing up facts like they have anything to do with my opinion
I am stating my opinion, flawed as it may be in your eyes, and you are attacking me because you think I am utterly stupid for being so wrong.
I am biased because the Cowboys are not my favorite team, you are biased because they are. You have numbers and facts that support you opinion. I have a gut feeling that supports mine.
I have never said you were wrong for thinking the way you do, but you have continuously bashed the way I think, and that is a personal attack outside of the argument in place.
If you had taken a reasoned response to my initial posting about my opinion, I might have actually been inclined to agree with you, but as it is you are playing the part of a bully and attacker, then actually try to sway me to your argument.
Your methods make work with others you deal with, but there are those of us who don’t like to be talked down to because of our opinions, and we shouldnt have to put up with it.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
I simply introduced facts into the equation.
I don’t think that is “bashing”, but okay.

MeatGeek - January 13, 2012

Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
They'd be more fun to watch if they did!
Sean T - January 13, 2012
I agree completely.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 14, 2012
Romo is far better than people give him credit for.
You can win a lot of games with him at QB. He’s probably right around top ten in the league right now, though depends on where one wants to rank Cam Newton. Just needs a signature playoff moment to jump that hurdle in people’s minds.
yeahboozin - January 13, 2012
You can win a lot of games, if you can keep him from getting distracted
And i’m still undecided on Cam Newton. He looked really good this year, but couldn’t lead his team to the playoffs like his fellow rookie Andy Dalton (who, talent wise, is arguably not as good). Newton is another Big Risk/Big Reward guy, who can win a lot of games, but can also lose a lot. Dalton is never going to impress anyone with stats or flashiness, but he will win games by limiting mistakes and playing smart football.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Dalton is great. I almost said "where one wants to rank Cam Newton and Andy Dalton."
But keep in mind just how bad Carolina was last year. Cam made them instantly competitive. The guy is going to be very very special in my opinion.
yeahboozin - January 13, 2012
Very true
I just want to see another year from him before I put him in my Top10, same with Dalton. I just want consistency…thats why Cassell stumbled so far in my book, and why I have Romo lower than others.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
Serious question:
What does Romo need to do to be above a “solid backup” level in your mind? Would breaking 4,000 for the fourth time in five full seasons do it? What about if he throws for 4x as many TDs as he does INTs, instead of just 3x?
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
You tend to get hung up on one very small part of my argument
and then try to ram it down my throat. Solid backup was an afterthought to Top 25. If he was on my team, he wouldnt start if I had someone better, but he is the best QB on the Cowboys roster. I also wouldnt start Cassell if I had a better QB, or Christian Ponder, or Joe Flacco, but they are the best QB on their team, and there are no other QB’s you could get that are better.
I’m not saying Romo is bad, but I don’t think he’s as “elite” as you do.
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
You realize that saying he's only "Top 25"
means you think he could be one of the 8 or so worst starters in the league, right? And throwing the “solid backup” thing in there made it clear that you think he IS one of the worst 8 or 9 starters in the league. I’ve simply pointed out to you that your argument doesn’t hold water. He’s not Brees/Brady/Manning level right now, but he’s in the next tier.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
You have "simply" tried to insult me for having an opinion
I don’t run a football organization, I don’t get paid to talk sports, I am a fan just like you.
And while I don’t think he’s one of the 8 or 9 worst starters, I don’t think he’s one of the 10 best either. I put Romo a tier and a helf behind Brees/Brady/Rodgers, after Rivers, Shaub, and Dalton/Newton. Its my opinion, and thats all that really matters.
You place him higher, I place him lower, and it doesnt matter because neither of us runs/owns the Cowboys.

Introducing you to the facts about Romo
is not intended to insult you.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 14, 2012
I disagree
Did Henson or Carter bang Jessica Simpson? I think not! That we know of anyway.
I was going to post other awesome pictures, but I didn’t know if I would get in trouble.
Sean T - January 13, 2012
Actually I think it has to do with someone's wife seeing it and that person getting into trouble
since this is supposed to be a K-State sports blog.
Anon_the_younger - January 13, 2012
What about all those Rally Scarlet's???
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
What happens in game threads, stays in game threads.
There was an issue with too many pictures of that sort in game threads as will, if I recall correctly.
Anon_the_younger - January 13, 2012
See, I never participate in game threads much
I just knew of the existence of the Rally Scarlet, and its effect on
gamesthreadsjtarkman - January 13, 2012
Hot women have as much to do with K-State sports as Dublin Dr. Pepper
Sean T - January 13, 2012
Given her track record, I'm not going to just dismiss the possibility.
Panjandrum - January 13, 2012
Who hasn't banged Jessica Simpson?

Carry on Sir, carry on.

what was the last job that this Camp guy had?
What job did he hold last year? Honest question. Just seems like they dip back to yesteryear whenever he’s talked about that I have no clue where he just came from.
GTcat - January 13, 2012
ok I guess I see he comes from the Dallas Cowboys as
being a secondary coach for the past 4 seasons
GTcat - January 13, 2012
As a fan of the Cowboys, I cheer this hire for KU.
May they make MANY more like it.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 13, 2012
glad we can put the Leavitt to KU talk to bed once and for all.
I only bought that talk for a short period of time though (2-3 days). But the longer it went some tendencies were starting to rear their ugly heads, and I was tempted to start to fall into that trap.
GTcat - January 13, 2012
Wow, RGIII's move to the NFL is even more of a no-brainer (irony intended) than I thought.
It looks as if he would have stayed, it might have been as a Ph.D. student. As it is, after going out with one year of eligibility left, he’s going to take his first snap with a Master’s Degree.
A Political Science degree less than two years after he enrolled? Seriously?
apewatcher - January 13, 2012
Well he was there the spring before his "Freshman" season running track
probably had a bunch of credits coming in, and I would assume took full summer classes…that, and a P.S. degree is pretty easy to come by if you don’t screw around…
jtarkman - January 13, 2012
If you can read "fast" and write "fast"
poly sci is an easy major. Not like some engineering or math/science based degree where you HAVE to knock out long problems with lots of numbers, and if you transpose even one, you are screwed!
Furnace76 - January 13, 2012
Would anyone really be suprised if RG3 is more successful than Andrew Luck say 5 years from now
EMAW 4 Ever - January 13, 2012
no...time for mini-rant
I understand why RG3 doesn’t look “durable” at the next level…it’s because he and I share the same body type (allbeit my frame to the 5th power): long and slender…side note, our hurdling careers in probably mine to the 10th power…The guy has muscle on him, areas to take abuse, it’s just that his frame is lanky so it’s spread out more. I just don’t understand how on one hand someone like Drew Brees who’s super small compared to most NFL qbs seems to be plenty durable, never gets mentioned, but someone like RG3 who’s a much bigger specimen gets knocked for this left and right just because he looks skinny.
Now if they’re basing this argument on RG3’s film of puss’n out after a sack or something complaining to a ref, that’s one thing.
Point is, I think they’re overplaying this, “yea but he won’t last in the NFL” thing. If Drew Brees can “last” this long, I contend RG3 can as well.
GTcat - January 13, 2012
If that Bomani guy wants to write an article about some latent racism (as he did about Cam Newton),
he should write it about why Luck is considered the surefire #1. I don’t normally think that way, but if you change only the fact that RG3’s skin is black, and give him the same measurables, including height, weight, speed, and stats, he’d be the #1 pick over Luck, in my opinion. He’s faster, more accurate, and more athletic.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 14, 2012
Don't agree with this at all.
1) RGIII had a breakout season this year. For three seasons Luck has been considered the sure fire #1 pick. It has nothing to do with race, Luck just had a two year headstart on RGIII.
2) Luck is more accurate than RGIII. They both are very accurate and can make all the throws, but RGIII’s ridiculous completion percentage was helped by a lot of shorter throws as that’s what Baylor’s offense designed often. Splitting hairs here though as both guys can fit the ball anywhere.
3) RGIII is certainly faster and a better athlete, but Luck is certainly an above average athlete and good enough to get it done. Athleticism/speed for QBs is overrated in the NFL because every single player is athletic and fast. Look at Mike Vick. They’ve tried for years to get him to not run so much. All you need is a guy who CAN run well to extend plays. But need not be Cam Newton, just have enough of it like Rodgers to break off a few killer 3rd down scrambles for first downs. Both Luck and RGIII have that.
I certainly can see what has people so excited about RGIII. He’s a great player and smart guy so I have no doubt he will succeed. I do think Luck is and will be better though and it has nothing to do with race.
yeahboozin - January 14, 2012
You're probably right.
I guess my only point is that I think it would be MUCH less clear-cut that Luck is #1 if RG3 was white. I don’t think it’s done on purpose, though, just that it’s something that subconsciously people factor in.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 14, 2012
For the record
My standpoint has nothing to do with whether one’s a better “prospect” than the other. I simply wouldn’t be surprised if five years removed from this thread/opinion, that for whatever reason RG3 has better success than Luck. Obviously success could be measured in many ways. That is all. If I was building and NFL expansion franchise from scratch, Luck would be my guy. But that doesn’t mean he necessarily pans out.
GTcat - January 15, 2012
And I don't mean to be bashing Luck, either.
He’s a great prospect. I just don’t understand the comparative “buzz” between the two, and how he’s considered head-and-shoulders above RG3 for the number 1 pick.
Collin's Bloody Elbow - January 15, 2012
Yes, I would.
I believe RGIII will be special, but Andrew Luck will be a top five QB in the NFL. And within five years.
Andrew Luck had virtually zero weapons to throw to this year beyond his TEs, one of which was hurt for many games. His only deep threat, Chris Owusu, couldn’t stay on the field. And yet that team should have beaten the Big 12 champ and finished 12-1. All because of Luck.
He’s one of those guys when he throws it deep you just assume the camera will cut to a receiver catching a long ball. He’s that good. And far more athletic than given credit for.
RGIII should also be great, don’t get me wrong, but I completely understand why Luck is considered a better prospect.
yeahboozin - January 14, 2012
Oh and Leach makes and HCRP-like DC hire
last two jobs on Resume: Montana and North Dakota State.
Though, if anyone can win games with little to no defense, it’s the Pirate himself.
GTcat - January 13, 2012
Insert Frank Martin quote here...
Leach’s response: yeah, I think it was on a test once, but then I forgot all about it.
