K-State Secures #2 Seed in the West

Kansas State got that much desired (and deserved) number two seed in the West region.

KSU will face North Texas in the first round, and if they're fortunate enough to get through that game, they'll face the winner of the BYU(7)/Florida(10).  If they get through the first weekend, they'll head to Salt Lake City to play, most likely, the Pitt Panthers(3).  However, Xavier(6), a previous opponent this season, waits in the wings.

The full bracket can be found, well, pretty much anywhere, but I've linked one for you here.

And, if you're in your 20s/30s, and you grew up watching Dick Vitale, it will warm your heart to see and hear him pick KSU to be in the Final Four.  It may not happen, obviously, but to hear it is nothing short of amazing.

Congratulations, Cats.  Go out there and wreck those brackets.

And here's Frank and the team watching and reacting to the selection show.

Absolutely love Frank's reaction....love it.
Absolutely

Well worth that contract I think

Congrats on the #2 seed fellas...

I think you’ve got a nice draw.

I do too

You guys… not so much. Good grief, how did Dook get an easier draw than KU?

And thanks. Hope to see you in the Final Four for Sunflower Showdown IV

Nope no thanks

I don’t want any part of KU in the FInal Four (if we happen to get there). It would be the fourth loss this season alone. I know things can happen, but KU’s got our number and I don’t see that changing this season.

Next season we’ll have a better shot to at least pull one away. Not this season.

truthfully...

I don’t want any part of a fourth meeting either. Pretty sure both fanbases have had their fill for the year albeit for different reasons.

Yeah, crappy draw...

but I guess I have the same opinion toward the draw in the tourney as I do about officials in a game. You can’t control how a game is called and you can’t control who they put in front of you in the tourney so I try not to complain or think about it.

All you can do is go out and play, beat the team in front of you and move on. Kansas is a very good team…if we play our best, we’ll beat all those teams. If we don’t, we’ll fall out early and have to live with it…that’s the nature of the tourney and what make college basketball so incredible. The highs are high and the lows are low.

Coach K must have an inside man on the committee
K-State was the best #2 seed in the Tourney.

This is a repost of an earlier comment in a more relevant article. Having analyzed the brackets now it is clear that KSU received the top #2 seed in the Tourney. The lower half of the West Bracket is perhaps the easiest and they have the weakest #1 seed. All in all we should be happy. Also we get the opportunity to play 2 games in OKC and then move on to Salt Lake City. This is perhaps the best cast scenario for us as we still get to play the underdog role while receiving the benefits of SOS and excellent overall record.

Not necessarily

It probably was West Virginia, but they couldn’t be in Syracuse’s bracket.

I think the S-curve almost was thrown out the window this year in order to keep 2 seeds close to home. Interesting development.

We probably were the 2nd or 3rd 2 seed on the S-curve, if I had to guess. Not like it matters at this point, though.

Yeah, it doesn't look bad

So why does BYU and Fredette scare me?

If he is hot,

he can score 40+ points in one game, no matter who guards him. That can scare any coach. But that is only a possible 2nd round matchup…

"No matter who guards him"

I was thinking about that. I don’t know anything about the MWC, but it seems to me there have to be precious few teams that have three strong defenders like Sutton, Pullen and Bulltavious.

Or, KSU could let him get his points but shut down the rest of the team (like the OSU game in the Big XII tourney).

Whichever, I’m excited about that game.

Yeah, I think we can handle the guy

Can’t be any worse than Anderson and Dunn, both of whom we contained last week.

RE: Sean T and BC posted replies

I was only meaning to convey what it could be that possibly scares coaches with BYU/Fredette – our coach? Hell no he isn’t scared/worried… worst case: he stares through Fredette’s skull pre-game and psyche’s him out :-)

I have no worries of him putting up 40 points on us – like you said he is no better than (if as good as) Anderson or Dunn. However, he can (as in , has) scored 40+ points in a game before.

Once you get past the first round, EVERYONE is scary
I Was Always

a KU fan unless they were playing K-State. After this season and getting beat three in a row by them when I knew we had a good clean shot at winning at least one, I’m leaning toward being on the dark side. Probably, when push comes to shove, I’ll put that aside and cheer for the C&B because of my daughter being a KU alum and her hubby being an A-1 KU fan.

I do like this Cat team, however, due as much as anything to the court presence of so many of the players. They understand the game and how to play it. Part of that is the coaching, but you could see it in many of them very early on. Although I shudder when I see Chris Merriweather approach the scorer’s bench, the kid knows how to play the game, even if the skills are limited. I would not be surprised to see him and Pullen both on the sidelines somewhere down the line coaching at this level.

Yes, they play hard

But the Cats sometimes don’t play offense. That really bothers me.
