Today we will start hearing which players are wise enough to sign on the dotted line to play for Bill Snyder. A list of our recruits for the 2009 class can be found at GoPowercat.com.
Post your thoughts, opinions, articles found and maybe a little smack talk here. Two rules only: just because a recruit turns us down doesn't mean there's something wrong with him, and be very careful about linking to any premium content from recruiting services.

I hate to say it, but Crabtree was right
This just isn’t a great class. It’s solid but not really what we needed to re-energize the fan base. I’m a little surprised we whiffed on every single 4-star we went after, save Daniel Thomas.
I’m not holding it against Snyder or the staff, because they were dealt a shitty hand, but next year simply has to be better than this or we will be sitting here in three years wondering why we’re still not winning more than 7 games a year. Yes, coaching was the primary problem in 2008, but don’t kid yourself – there’s talent issues on this team, too, and they will be markedly worse when these seniors graduate after next season.
I, of course, reserve the right to be infinitely more optimistic if Snyder somehow completes the miracle of getting Bryce Brown and Chris Harper to become Wildcats, but that’s the only thing I think could actually create a buzz around this class. (Other than John Hubert, and now that he has signed, by all means – buzz away.)
BracketCat - February 4, 2009
The worse thing for recruiting this year...
was not making a bowl game. I think that ranks slightly higher than the coaching change since Snyder brings some credibility. Top recruits don’t want to come to a school that might or might not even qualify for a bowl. If we even get to a mediocre bowl this year, recruiting will have a much bigger stick for next year’s class.
jboot1 - February 4, 2009
Agree
Just like Martin and Co. had to do in ’07, Snyder and Co. are going to have to show some tangible improvement in ’09 to have any pull with the top echelons of recruits.
BracketCat - February 4, 2009
Anyone know why Angelo Pease hasn't signed yet?
Man, if we end today with NO QBs in the class after we pursued 15+, I’m just gonna have to shake my head…
BracketCat - February 4, 2009
That's what I fear...
…all this buzz over QBs, and it doesn’t sound like we’re going to get anyone. Ouch.
TB - February 4, 2009
The simple truth is
It’s going to be a long uphill battle back to respectability. I don’t expect us to compete with Michigan, or even Ole Miss now that Nutt is there, but MARSHALL? They’re probably going to fire their coach this year – he hasn’t had a winning season yet. Graham picked the wrong Snyder, and it just makes me shake my head.
BracketCat - February 4, 2009
Some are saying we backed off on Graham...
I don’t know why.

Instant gratification
I guess we live in an instant gratification society, so why should Wildcat fans be any different? I would think we should give Snyder and his staff a full year to recruit before we get to worked up about wether or not he can recruit anymore. You are going to fight a uphill battle trying to win over kids who have been talking to other schools for months. It is probably going to get a lot better from here. Expecting a top forty class in less then two months of recruiting is not realistic. Let’s see if they can coach these kids to some kind of bowl next year, and then see what happens. I love K-State, but we are not USC, we are going to have to show kids something before getting the better ones here. I believe we have the kindof staff that will over achieve with what they have to work with. Then the recruiting will start to improve.
powercat - February 4, 2009
No one expected a great class
I certainly didn’t.
But don’t expect us to throw confetti and streamers when our one 4-star commit backs out to go to a team that won ONE game last year, and another 4-star kid we were led to believe was all but in the bag stayed with CU.
The only surprises today were unpleasant ones.
Please save the purple sunshine-flavored Kool-Aid for GPC. Contrary to popular belief, Snyder is not 100 percent guaranteed to be successful the 2nd time around just because he was the 1st. People have a right to vent or otherwise be critical here.
BracketCat - February 5, 2009
I am cautiously optimistic. Only time will really tell how these kids develop.
I heard this on the sports talk radio station out of KC and it makes sense: A lot of the blue chip recruits are those that more than likely developed early in high school. Alot of these kids are still growing and will put on more weight, get stronger, etc. while in college. It’s hard to predict how a kid will perform at the collegiate level when they pack on 50 more lbs. (give or take). The blue chips are usually at the size a coach would expect for their respective position, so you pretty much know how good they are. Unfortunately, smaller schools (K-State) will lose out on these blue chips to the bigger schools and must rely on how they develop the recruits that they do get.
On a side note, it seems the blue chips that K-State won over in the past tend to be busts when they get on the field. Weird.
MadCat - February 5, 2009
It's pretty simple
I want Snyder to win games. I don’t care how he does it or who he does it with. Winning recruiting wars is not winning games so I don’t get too out of shape about it.
We have some nice players in this class; I’m not trying to imply we don’t. Rivals isn’t perfect at what they do, either. But they’re getting better and eventually you have to find at least a few high-level impact players to win in this league. All I am saying is that if we are still mediocre for the next 4 years like we have been the last 5, we’ll know that coaching was not our only problem. It’s the Jimmie and Joes, not the Xs and Os.
Ron Prince: The Gift That Keeps On Giving!
BracketCat - February 5, 2009
Fortunately, we know that Snyder and company have been working on the class of 2010 too.
Hopefully, this time next year we will be up higher than 94th and 109th in the recruiting rankings. How did we get worse than Iowa State?
