Bring On The Cats

K-State Slate, 8/6/08

Prince, Extended: Just got word last night that Ron Prince has received a contract extension.  At this point, there are absolutely no details available, and I haven’t had time to figure out what I think about this, so we’ll just leave it at that for now.

Sting Remover: I finally feel less embarrassment over last year’s aborted promotional video.  Why, you ask?  Because I can’t wait to see Husker fans dancing to the Bo Pelini Polka!  That, combined with last year’s atrocious tunnel-walk video, has officially removed any lingering bad feelings over last year’s video.  I am now moving on with my life.

He Nailed It: Over at the Tennessee blog Rocky Top Talk, Joel is ranking the coolest, worst, most boring, and least intimidating college logos.  I’ll let him take it away as he describes our "friends" to the east:

It’s a bird! It’s a clown! It’s a Clown-Bird, complete with oversized puffy shoes and an abnormally-sized see-through beak. Sue Grafton says K is for Kill, but Kansas' Jayhawk is not intimidating. Frightening, in a Teletubbie in your garage kind of way, yes, but intimidating? No.

I of course reserve the right to denounce Joel as a dunce and a liar if he includes the Powercat on his upcoming list of the 10 worst college logos, which given the fact that the Powercat has yet to be listed, seems like a possibility.

Feel the Power: At ESPN’s Big 12 blog, Tim Griffin has released his preseason Big 12 power rankings.  He has K-State at 10, while Texas A&M somehow takes the seventh slot.

As I implied in the post below regarding the preseason coaches’ poll, I hold a healthy disdain for preseason rankings.  For a solid statement as to why, check out this post from our LSU blog, And The Valley Shook.

I Get Around: No, not like that.  But in the last few weeks, I’ve been asked by several sites to answer a few questions about K-State football and out 2008 outlook.  First, be sure to check out my Q&A over at Rock M Nation, our Missouri blog.  Also, last week at Rock M was K-State preview week, so check out these posts: K-State Beyond the Box Score (must-read statistical analysis, do not miss it), the Rock M Roundtable discussing K-State, and the Community Projections for K-State.

Also, Nebraska’s Big Red Network had a few questions about their much beloved neighbors to the south, so I stepped up to answer.  Also check out their opponent preview, Kansas State Breakdown, and ‘making it rain on dem jucos.’

Coming soon, check out Saturday Sound Offs for my answers to their five questions.  If (when) you catch any glaring errors or omissions, please bring them to my attention with all deliberate speed and all deserved scorn.

just to clarify

The Bo Pelini polka is some yahoo with a sound editing program and too much time on his hands. I don’t claim him and I am embarrassed. I also figured that this was as good a place as any to apologize in advance and post-blogging for any name-calling, ill will, spewing hatred, or whatever negativity that I have shown towards Kansas State. You have shown me that not all of you are THAT bad.

by the way this is tom from http://bigrednetwork.com

No problems

I was hoping nobody would catch the flaw in my argument, namely that the power towel video was made by our athletic department (though, I will note again, was never used) while the polka was made by your average fan.

Don’t worry about whatever ensues over at BRN. We wouldn’t be rivals (or whatever Husker fans think of us as) unless we spewed a little hatred each other’s way on occasion.

As you’ll probably notice, I couldn’t help but join in the discussion over at BRN. It just looked like too much fun.

Why does everybody have all this hostility?

I’ve never fully understood why people just automatically hate fans from other schools. I checked out bigrednetwork.com and just found the most ridiculous comments and posts for the whopping one minute I spent on that site. Sure I don’t like certain schools and what they represent to college football, but to spew hatred towards anyone from opposing teams? Grow up and just enjoy the game like anyone else.

Oh and we're safe

on the Rocky Top Talk’s worst college logos list. To see the powercat on any list of that nature just wouldn’t make sense.
